    • A hand throw mechanism for an in-tie switch machine having a drive element which serves to move switch points from a first end point to a second end point. The mechanism includes an elongated hand throw arm having a first coupling element that includes a first lower mating surface and a first upper mating surface. The mechanism also includes a gear set having an output shaft for moving the drive element. The gear set additionally includes a second coupling element having a second lower mating surface for engaging the first upper mating surface and a second upper mating surface for engaging the first lower mating surface to thus couple the first and second coupling elements. Rotation of the hand throw arm through an angle of approximately 180 degrees then causes rotation of the output shaft to thus move the driving element and ultimately the switch points. The mechanism also includes a thrust element having a raised portion wherein rotation of the thrust element urges the raised portion against the first coupling element to separate the first and second coupling elements and disengage the throw arm.

    • A method and related apparatus for selectively line spin scrambling, reversing and inverting certain video lines or video segments to minimize amplitude gaps in a line-spin scrambled video signal and for unscrambling the line-spin scrambled video signal. The method for minimizing the amplitude gaps in the line-spin scrambled video signal involves measuring various amplitude differentials, prior to line spin scrambling, between certain points along the active portion of each video line. The values of the various amplitude differentials are then compared to a preselected value and, depending on which amplitude differential is less than or equal to the preselected value, the video line is line spin scrambled, reversed or left unchanged and one of the video segments is inverted or reversed to reduce the amplitude gap in the scrambled video line to at least the preselected value.

    • A method of controlling the plant back interval after application of sodium azide. The plant back interval can be significantly shortened by application of a dithiocarbamate, a thiocarbamate, a carbamate, an organic sulfide, an organic disulfide, or an aldehyde, with which the sodium azide may react and become inactivated. These compounds may be applied to soil to deactivate sodium or potassium azide residues and thus allow for immediate planting of a desirable turf or crop, and prevent plant stunting and delayed fruiting of crops without adversely affecting plant growth. The present invention thus provides a method for manipulating the activity period of sodium azide against pests by stopping its activity, when desired, by the application of one or more of these deactivating compounds. The preferred compound is metam sodium which is a dithiocarbamate.

    • A power-up and power-down mast and carriage assembly for a lift truck of the type having a stationary mast section fixed to the truck, a movable inner mast section reciprocable within the stationary mast, a fork carriage movably associated with the inner mast section, a double-acting hydraulic ram having an extensible and retractable cylinder and piston rod assembly operatively connected between said mast sections for extending and retracting the inner mast section relative to the stationary mast section. Lost-motion couplings interconnect both power-up and power-down chains with the stationary mast and carriage in a closed loop chain rigging system. The lost-motion couplings each have a rod slidably through the interconnection with the carriage and stationary mast, and spaced stops operable to limit travel of the rod to a predetermined distance. Coil springs connected to the rod yieldably bias the chains so as to exert tension thereon in a direction opposite to the load forces imposed on the chains by the ram. The lost-motion predetermined travel distance preferably is equal to the sum of the travel of the lost-motion coupling of the powered chains during initial application of ram-applied forces thereto plus the maximum elongation of the powered chains under maximum rated load so that the non-powered chains are always maintained in taut condition in both power-up and power-down modes of operation of said mast.
