    • In accordance with the present invention, a method for providing generation of speech includes the steps of providing input to be acoustically produced, comparing the input to training data or application specific splice files to identify one of words and word sequences corresponding to the input for constructing a phone sequence, using a search algorithm to identify a segment sequence to construct output speech according to the phone sequence and concatenating segments and modifying characteristics of the segments to be substantially equal to requested characteristics. Application specific data is advantageously used to make pertinent information available to synthesize both the phone sequence and the output speech. Also, described is a system for performing operations in accordance with the disclosure.

    • A corrosion inhibiting device for firearms which can fit into the chamber of a firearm or stand on its end is provided. The Device has three main sections. The first section is an inner sleeve having a base which approximates the size of the rim of the shell or cartridge of a particular firearm. Extending upwardly from the rim are a plurality of arms which are circumferentially curved to approximate the shape of a firearm chamber. In between each arm is a space through which a volatile corrosion inhibitor material vapor is expelled. The second section of the Device is an outer sleeve. The outer sleeve is columnar in shape and sized so that it approximates the circumference of the shell or cartridge of a particular firearm. One end is open and fits over the upwardly extending arms of the inner sleeve, and is held in place by an O-ring found near the base of the inner sleeve. The opposite end of the outer sleeve is covered, with the exception that it has a hole formed into it. The wall of the outer sleeve has slots formed into it which equal in both size and number the spaces found in between the upwardly extending arms of the inner sleeve. The third section of the Device is a volatile corrosion inhibiting material. The material is essentially columnar in shape having a plurality of flanges extending from a central core. The material is placed on the inside of the inner sleeve, which is then covered with the outer sleeve. By turning the outer sleeve, the amount of volatile corrosion inhibitor vapor released into the firearm chamber can be adjusted.

    • Methods and apparatus are provided for processing an information signal containing content presented in accordance with at least one modality. In one aspect of the present invention, a method of processing an information signal containing content presented in accordance with at least one modality, comprises the steps of: (i) obtaining the information signal; (ii) performing content detection on the information signal to detect whether the information signal includes particular content presented in accordance with the at least one modality; and (iii) generating a control signal, when the particular content is detected, for use in controlling a rendering property of the particular content and/or implementation of a specific action relating to the particular content. Various illustrative embodiments in the context of speech signal processing for use in voicemail and/or cellular phone applications are provided, as well as illustrative embodiments associated with the processing of multi-modal or multimedia information signals. Also, the present invention provides for storing selectively marked information, even in the absence of content detection, such that the information may be rendered and/or used at a later time. The invention also extends to processing of text-based and markup language-based signals, e.g., XML documents.
