    • A rotary switch operated by a cam having a lobe is disclosed. The cam is attached to a mechanism for rotation about the axis of the cam. A first switch contact member is positioned adjacent said cam and selectively makes electrical contact with a second switch contact member. The bracket attached to the first switch contact member contains a roller positioned adjacent to the cam for rotatably engaging the cam as the cam rotates. The roller is positioned with the bracket portion of the first contact such that the axis of the roller is movable from a first position to a second position as the switch changes from an open to closed or from a closed to open position. The bracket may contain an elongated slot which permits the axle of the roller to move within the slot as the switch changes modes. The slot preferably extends linearly and at an angle less than 45 degrees from a tangent line to the surface of said lobe adjacent the slope between said cam and said lobe. In preferred embodiments, 15 degree angles to the tangent are particularly advantageous. The switch is preferably operated in the main shaft in a highway crossing mechanism and is preferably used in the motor control circuit to drive the crossing arm upward.

    • An elongated through-grid split sleeve is used to secure a nuclear fuel assembly spacer grid axially within a fuel assembly. The split sleeve has windows extending along an axial dimension equal to the height of the cell walls through which control rod guide thimbles extend with the sleeve having an overall axial dimension that extends the sleeve above and below the cell walls. The sleeve is inserted into the guide thimble tube openings of a welded spacer grid assembly by squeezing the split sleeve to collapse its diameter to fit into the opening. The collapsed sleeve is inserted into the opening and then released when in position, thus locking it into position within the grid. The spacer grid assembly is then assembled into the fuel assembly skeleton structure and secured into position by welding the split sleeves to the guide thimble tubes.

    • A coin escrow apparatus for use with a pay telephone includes a housing defining a coin hopper, a coin acceptance chute, and a coin return chute. The apparatus also includes a door mounted within the housing for selective movement between an escrow position for supporting coins in the hopper, an acceptance position for releasing coins from the hopper to the coin acceptance chute, and a return position for releasing coins from the hopper to the coin return chute. The door includes first and second ends and an underside portion. The apparatus also includes structures for selectively moving the door between its escrow, acceptance, and return positions, including: (a) guide elements for guiding the door for pivotal movement in a first direction and in a second direction opposite to the first direction; (b) a pivotal support element positioned below the door and having an upper portion engaging the underside of the door intermediate the first and second ends of the door, the pivotal support element pivoting about a pivot axis below the door; and (c) an actuator for pivoting the pivotal support element.

    • A new spring design for a strap employed in a grid of a nuclear reactor fuel assembly includes a pair of ligaments that each connect with the free portion of the retention plate. The ligaments each are equally spaced a certain distant from the termination of the slots within the strap body. The spring additionally includes a spring contact plate that is wider than the connections of the spring ligaments with the free portion to increase the surface area with which the spring contact plate is in contact with and retains the fuel rod, and thus reduces the contact stresses therebetween. The spring contact plate additionally includes an embossed spring contact member protruding outwardly therefrom reduces the frictional stresses on the fuel rod when it is inserted into and removed from the cell and during vibration of the fuel rod and/or the strap.
