    • A ring segment (100) used to form a packing ring (6). The segment comprises an arcuate shaped piece interfitting with similar pieces to form an effective seal both between adjacent stages of a turbine (1), and an end stage (2) of the turbine and the atmosphere. Each ring segment has a step (14, 15) formed at each end of the segment for interfacing the segment with an adjacent ring segment. The steps are formed on opposite sides of the ring segment and allow adjacent segments to readily interface with each other because an oversize of resulting butt gap (16) is formed between them. This eliminates rework of the segments to assemble the ring, insures a quality seal is affected, and reduces the time the turbine is off-line.

    • A method and apparatus for managing effectively data and command buffers in an I/O subsystem utilizes a content addressable memory (CAM) array (36) having a plurality of CAM storage locations (SL1 . . . SLn). The CAM array is used to store a plurality of SCSI Nexus entries and generates a unique address pointer when there is a match between an incoming SCSI Nexus value and one of the plurality of SCSI Nexus entries. A command buffer (24) or user data buffer (26) is responsive to the unique address pointer for storing and retrieving the command/data section of a Command Control Block in a corresponding one of a plurality of buffer storage locations. As a result, the host CPU (12) or adapter (22) is relieved of much of the overhead associated with managing these buffers.

    • A method, apparatus, and system for securing data on a removable memory device, which is removably coupled to and accessible by a computing apparatus, are disclosed. Upon an attempt by a user to access the removable memory device, a biometric key is recovered by a biometric key interface device. This biometric key is used to authenticate an identity of the user. Upon the authentication, where the user identity corresponds to authorized access to the memory device, the access is enabled. Upon the authentication where the user identity does not correspond to authorized access to the memory device, the access is prohibited.
