    • The disclosed embodiments provide for methods and systems for monitoring a paging channel. In one aspect, a method for monitoring a paging channel includes monitoring a paging channel for a page message at scheduled paging slots, determining that an error has occurred at a given paging slot, and monitoring the paging channel for a re-page message at at least one scheduled re-paging slot, where the re-paging slots occur after the given paging slot but before the next scheduled paging slot. In another aspect, a method for monitoring a paging channel includes monitoring a first one of a plurality of paging channels for a page message at scheduled paging slots, determining that an error has occurred at a given paging slot, and monitoring at least a second one of the plurality of paging channels for the page message.

    • A system and method are provided for distributing wireless network access parameters in a multi-mode communications user terminal (UT). The method includes: establishing a link between a UT and a first communications network (i.e., a cellular network); accessing a parameters server via the first network; downloading access parameters for a wireless, second communications network (i.e., a Wireless Local Area Network); and, using the downloaded access parameters to establish a wireless link between the UT and the second communications network. The downloaded access parameters may include information such as a security key, Service Set IDentifier (SSID), traffic channel allocation, and optimization parameters including transmit power, quality of service (QoS) settings, and operational mode. Alternately, the database may cross-reference UT ID to parameters such as QoS, IP address, gateway information, subnet mask, Domain Name Server (DNS) information, or geographical location.

    • A user terminal establishes a session with a first access point (AP0) and obtains a token associated with modem configuration information used for radio communication. The user terminal thereafter establishes a connection with a second access point (AP1) by sending the token. AP1 receives the token, obtains the modem configuration information associated with the token, and initializes an air interface protocol stack with the modem configuration information to obtain a modem-specific protocol stack for the user terminal. AP1 sends a response indicating successful connection setup. The user terminal and AP1 thereafter communicate in accordance with the modem-specific protocol stack. AP1 may attempt to fetch the session for the user terminal from AP0. If this is successful, then AP1 updates the protocol stack with the session information to obtain a complete protocol stack for the user terminal. The user terminal and AP1 thereafter communicate with the complete protocol stack.
