    • The invention enables efficient cooling of: a light source providing source light; an optical system adapted to split the source light received from the light source into three primary colors R, G, and B; and a power supply unit for supplying electric power to various electric components installed in a casing of a projector apparatus. To do so, a first fan is arranged between the light source and the power supply unit such that its air inspiration face is directed to the power supply unit and its air expiration face is directed to the light source. Further, a second fan, adapted to inspire air from within the projector apparatus, is provided in the central area of the projector apparatus. On the air expiration side of the second fan is a cooling duct for cooling the light source and optical system. In addition, a third fan for cooling a G-LCP unit and an R-LCP unit of the image synthesizing device and a fourth fan for cooling a B-LCP and an R-LCP unit of the image synthesizing device are provided in such a way that the streams of air expired from said third and fourth fans intersect each other. The invention allows operation of a projector apparatus with a fewer fans, yet achieves suppression of exhaust air temperature and noise, and cost reduction as well.

    • A first exhaust fan 17 for mainly discharging exhaust air from a light source lamp 19 to exterior and a second exhaust fan 18 for mainly discharging exhaust air from parts other than the light source lamp 19 are arranged to be parallel to each other. An end of the exhaust fan 17 facing the other exhaust fan 18 is moved to the inner side and the one exhaust fan 17 is inclined to discharge air in an exhaust direction toward a direction along which air is discharged from the other exhaust fan 18. There is provided a cooling fan 16 that blows air to an interior air blow outlet 161 communicating with the interior of the light source lamp 19 and exterior air blow outlets 162 and 163 communicating with an outer surface to cool the light source lamp 19. The exterior air blow outlets 162 and 163 are deviated from the center of the outer surface of the light source lamp 19. The cooling fan 16 is used to allow the exhaust air used for cooling the light source lamp 19 to be discharged through the first exhaust fan 17. The first exhaust fan 17 is inclined so that exhaust air is sucked by the first exhaust fan 17 in a direction to the exterior air blow outlets 162 and 163. As a result, a projection type image display apparatus can be minimized while achieving the cooling of the light source lamp, the reduction of the exhaust air temperature, and the reduction of noise of the exhaust fan.

    • A liquid crystal projection apparatus has an image synthesizing means comprising: a color synthesization prism having an upper surface, a lower surface facing the upper surface, and three light incident faces between the upper and lower surfaces; an upper prism pedestal provided on the upper surface of the color synthesization prism; a lower prism pedestal provided on the lower surface of the color synthesization prism; an upper liquid crystal panel holder provided on the upper prism pedestal and having a multiplicity of first jointing sections, a lower liquid crystal panel holder provided on the lower prism pedestal and having a multiplicity of second jointing sections; three liquid crystal panels; and three liquid crystal panel mounting members securely fixing thereon the three liquid crystal panels, the three mounting members arranged on the respective three incident faces of the color synthesization prism and adapted to joint the first jointing sections located in association with the respective incident faces to corresponding second jointing sections located in association with the corresponding incident faces. Thus, a liquid crystal projection apparatus is provided with such image synthesizing means having a reduced number of parts and an improved assembly accuracy.
