    • The invention is concerned with improvements in a web draw-in system for a web printing press comprising printing units with register rolls around which the web is trained, a draw-in bar to be attached to the leading end of the web and two tractive elements extending along the side frames of the press and guided by bend pulleys following the web path in the press. The tractive elements extend from one drum at one end of the press to a further drum at the other end so that they may be wound onto and unwound from such drums moving the draw-in bar along the web path. In order to ensure a low degree of strain on the tractive elements, and for this reason a substantial removal of stress from the servo means moving the register rolls the drums are each driven synchronously in either direction of rotation by a main drive connected with them via respective differentials, more especially in the form of harmonic drives or other epicyclic systems whose further input shaft is connected with an ancillary drive means which is controlled by a monitoring device sensing the tension in at least one of the tractive elements. The ancillary drive device may thus be turned in either direction. Near a position halfway along the web path there is a locking device for locking the tractive elements except when the web is being drawn in or the tractive elements are being rewound. The monitoring device are operative when the tractive elements are so locked.

    • A cylinder for machines processing running lengths of material is supported at its ends by bearing frames which may be moved for moving the cylinder, the cylinder having a pipe-like or tube-like outer casing which is supported by self-aligning bearings and has within it a core which is not turned and has an outer diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the casing, the casing being supported on the core by at least one support bearing which is symmetrical with respect to the middle of the casing and coaxial thereto. To give the casing a desired line of bending, to be in harmony with the cylinder with which it is used (on the other side of the running length of material) without being changed by moving the cylinder towards and away from the other cylinder, the pipe-like casing is supported in self-aligning bearings at its ends, separately from the core within it, on the end bearing frames. The ends of the core, running out from the pipe-like casing, are able to be moved by adjustment parts acting radially, such adjustment parts being supported on the two bearing frames. For prevention of any hot spots on the casing, the space between the casing and the core has an oil filling and on the core there are sloping blades for guiding oil towards the bearing or bearings by way of which the casing is supported on the core, this resulting in an even distribution of heated oil within the casing.

    • A web feed printing press, more especially a rotogravure press, has a longitudinal shaft for driving printing units and a device for driving the web draw rolls. In order to achieve a simpler design without any direct mechanical connected between the draw rolls and the longitudinal while still ensuring accurate drive operation the drive device for the pair of draw rolls comprises a main motor and an auxiliary motor each with an adjustable speed of rotation. A differential drive has two inputs and one output. The speed of rotation of the main motor is varied in a way dependent on the speed of rotation of the longitudinal shaft and the speed of rotation of the auxiliary motor is varied in accordance with the speed of rotation of the longitudinal shaft and of the tension of the web of paper to be printed. The auxiliary motor is coupled with a differential element of the differential drive, which is preferably in the form of a harmonic drive, so that a speed difference in the rotation between, on the one hand, the input of the differential drive connected with the main motor and, on the other hand, the output of the differential drive connected with the pair of draw rolls may be produced.
