    • A liquid crystal display is provided which comprises front and rear panels, and electrodes, polarizers and a layer of liquid crystal disposed between the front and rear panels. The polarizer on the rear panel is preferably a reflecting type in at least one region of the spectrum and contains at least one element in the form of a multilayer structure. The multilayer structure contains at least two anisotropic layers separated by at least one intermediate layer which is optically transparent in the desired spectral region. The ratio of refraction indices and thickness of the layers in the multilayer structure is chosen such to provide an extremum for the ratio of the transmitted and reflected polarized light in the spectral region.

    • The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display panel with improved image contrast comprising an array of pixel regions and a sequence of a recycling backlight structure comprising broadband rear interference polar (RI-Polar) having a transmission axis AB with preset orientation, a spatial intensity modulation structure comprising a broadband front interference polar (FI-Polar) having a transmission axis approximately parallel to the transmission axis AB, a spectral filtering structure, and antireflection means. Each said pixel region spatially encompasses a plurality of subpixel regions. The RI-Polar and FI-Polar are multilayer structures of stacked layers. At least one layer of each structure is optically anisotropic, made by means of Cascade Crystallization Process and characterized by a globally ordered biaxial crystalline structure with an intermolecular spacing of 3.4±0.3 Å in the direction approximately parallel to the transmission axis AB. Said layer is transparent in the wavelength band of visible light, and is formed by rodlike supramolecules, which represent at least one polycyclic organic compound with a conjugated π-system and ionogenic groups.

    • Anisotropic multilayer thin-film coating that may be used in fabrication of various optical elements, such as polarizers, beam splitters, interference-polarizing light filters, polarizing mirrors, etc. The invention is aimed at creating a multilayer optically anisotropic structure, which contains at least one layer with high degree of anisotropy and perfect structure, whereas refraction indexes and thicknesses of all layers and their combination is selected according to the known law, determined by the purpose of the structure, such as to provide an interference extremum for at least one polarization of light. The technical result is the increase of effectiveness of transforming incident radiation, which corresponds to the functional purpose of the multilayer optically anisotropic structure, due to the high reproducible degree of amsotropy of at least one layer in the structure.

    • The present invention relates to the field of color filters, in particular, to a non-absorbing polarization color filters and to high-brightness color liquid crystal display panel with improved image contrast employing non-absorbing polarization color filters and light recycling among neighboring subpixels. The disclosed invention represents a non-absorbing polarization color filter comprising the following elements: a rear broadband multilayer lossless polarizer, a front broadband multilayer lossless polarizer, and a color polarization rotator. The rear broadband multilayer lossless polarizer has a predefined-oriented transmission axis AB. Said front broadband multilayer lossless polarizer is located approximately in parallel with the rear broadband multilayer lossless polarizer, and has a transmission axis approximately parallel or approximately orthogonal with respect to transmission axis AB. The color polarization rotator is located between the front broadband multilayer lossless polarizer and the rear broadband multilayer lossless polarizer. Said color polarization rotator comprises a stack of thin birefringent films with c-axes orientations alternated in sign according to a rocking angle α with respect to orientation of the transmission axis AB. A number, a rocking angle α, thicknesses and optical anisotropies of thin birefringent films are selected so, that the non-absorbing polarization color filter transmits a predetermined color light having the polarization state approximately parallel to transmission axis AB, reflects said predetermined color light having the polarization state orthogonal to the transmission axis AB, and reflects an unpolarized light of other predetermined color.
