摘要： A system and method for measuring the fly height of a head flying over a disc in a disc drive is disclosed. A head is vertically spaced from a rotating disc surface by an air bearing surface. The disc has one or more radial grooves in the surface of the disc. As the disc rotates, the radial grooves on the disc pass under the head and induce a perturbation in the signal. By measuring the perturbations in the signal caused by the grooves in the disc surface, and by processing the measurement signal, a vertical spacing signal proportional to the vertical spacing between the disc and the head can be obtained.

摘要： A slider of the type for use with a rotatable magnetic disk is disclosed. The slider has two ends and a bottom surface which includes an air bearing surface. An adhesive layer and continuous coating of carbon is located on the air bearing surface. A method of sputter depositing this continuous layer of carbon upon the air bearing surface of the slider is also provided. The continuous layer of carbon is crown-shaped and deposited using the sputtering technique. The carbon is directed from a source at the air bearing surface of a slider. A mask is placed between the source and slider so that the carbon is deposited in a crown shape. When the slider is viewed from front to rear the maximum depth of the coating is less than about 6 to 10 nm, while at the ends of the slider the coating depth is near 0 nm.

摘要： A device and method for testing a slider of a head-gimbal assembly during disc drive manufacturing. The device includes a test disc, an actuator arm and a control module. The test disc has a first circumferential area for detecting contact between the slider and the test disc and a second circumferential area for burnishing sliders that contact the first circumferential area as the test disc rotates at or above the predetermined velocity. The head-gimbal assembly is affixed to the actuator arm such that the slider is operable to move between an inner diameter and an outer diameter of the test disc. The control module controls the movement of the actuator arm, and thus the slider, relative to the test disc. The control module monitors the slider-disc interface for contact therebetween. If contact is detected, the slider is either burnished or the head-gimbal assembly is discarded altogether.

摘要： An improved guide railing assembly for a conveyor system is provided comprising an elongated railing for providing lateral support to articles being conveyed along a path defined by the conveyor, the railing having a substantially half-moon shaped cross-section. A generally U-shaped clamp is also provided having a pair of gripping fingers corresponding to the legs of the U, the fingers being curved toward each other in a shape substantially corresponding to the curvature of the curved surface. The fingers are spaced apart a sufficient distance to receive therebetween at least the railing, the bottom portion of the U being generally concave and forming an aperture therethrough for receiving a fastener for fastening said clamp to a support member associated with the conveyor, the clamp being spring-like to respond to a tightening of the fastener by tending to flatten the bottom of the U and force the fingers towards each other in a gripping fashion on the railing therein, whereby the railing can be reliably retained by the clamp in a preselected position relative to the conveyor path. A plastic cover is also provided for the elongated railing.

The installation includes an auxiliary pair of shock absorbers installed so that the lower end of each shock absorber lies under the leaf spring of the vehicle and the other end lies at the inner side of the longitudinal beam at the under side of the vehicle, to enable a long shock absorber to be installed that extends in a largely lateral direction. It has been found that such auxiliary shock absorbers extending at an angle of about 30.degree. from the vertical, produce a large and unexpected deduction in rocking of motor home type vehicles that have long rearward overhangs behind the wheels.
