    • A filtering device 10, 10′ that has a fluid inlet 12, a plenum 14, first and second filter layers 16 and 18, first and second fluid outlets 20 and 22, and a housing 24. The plenum 14 receives air that passes through the fluid inlet 12, and the first and second filter layers 16 and 18 are located on opposing sides of the plenum 14. The first and second fluid outlets 20 and 22 are located downstream to the first and second filter layers 16 and 18, respectively, on a side of each filter layer 16, 18 opposite the plenum 14. The housing 12 supports the first and second filter layers 16, 18 on opposing sides of the plenum 14. Very good distribution of fluid through the device 10 may be achieved because the plenum 14 and the filtering layers 16, 18 maintain their original relative positioning throughout use. Complex shapes can be produced, which enable the filtering device to accommodate devices of various configurations. Thicker filter media beds may be used on each side of the plenum to improve filtration performance and service life.

    • A filter canister assembly utilizes a sealant deflector to seal a particulate filter to the canister wall, even after the canister is sealed. The canister housing has a wall and an aperture with a particulate filter disposed therein. The particulate filter has an edge adjacent the wall, and is designed for removing particles of contaminants from a fluid, such as air, passed through the canister. A sealant deflector includes a plurality of vanes standing proud of a support substrate, and is situated between the aperture and the particulate filter and forms a permanent part of the canister assembly. The sealant deflector deflects a sealant in liquid state toward the wall to form a seal between the edge and the wall when the sealant is deposited on the sealant deflector while spinning. This deposits a sealant ring sealing the wall to the edge. The sealant deflector is self-centered under the aperture, by a bow-tie shaped structure of four arms extending outward radially from the sealant deflector connected in pairs by curved braces.

    • An improved respirator filter assembly includes an integral fit seal check mechanism easily controlled by the user. Upon release, the seal check mechanism permits free airflow through the filter assembly. The seal check mechanism includes an air passageway having a sealing rim and a blocking member which is selectively movable between engaged and disengaged positions relative to the sealing rim. A spring element is disposed to releasably maintain the blocking member in the disengaged position during filter assembly operation, wherein a user may actuate the blocking member against the bias of the spring element to move the blocking member into the engaged position to substantially prevent entry of air into the air passageway during seal checking.
