    • A bearing apparatus is provided for a driven shaft of an automobile. It includes a rotational speed detector for detecting a rotational speed of a wheel of the automobile by detecting the rotational speed of a circular detected member which has a plurality of projections provided at even intervals in the circumferential direction. The detected member is fixed to one end of a driven shaft. The other end of the driven shaft includes a flange for mounting of a wheel. The shaft is part of an inside member which is rotatably supported by an outside member fixed to a chassis through a plurality of rolling elements. Detected speed is sent to an antilock brake system through a connector. The rotational speed detector, a cover fit to the outside member to enclose at least those parts of the rotational speed detector and detected member which are in opposition, and the connector are embedded in a resin block by a plastic molding technique such that they have a fixed relationship to each other so as to provide an assembly of unitary construction.

    • A fastening structure capable of preventing deterioration in the flatness of a surface of a flange portion (2) when a serration (7) of a bolt (5) is press-fit into the flange portion (2). In this fastening structure, one portion in an axial direction of an outer peripheral surface (6) of the bolt (5) is provided with the serration (7). The bolt (5) is press-fit into a bolthole (3) formed through the flange portion (2) of a mounting member (1). The serration (7) is located apart from respective end surfaces (2A) and (2B) of the flange portion (2) by first and second distances (D, C), and the first and second distances (D, C) each exceed 13% of the thickness (A) of the flange portion (2). With this arrangement, the serration (7) presses a bolthole inner peripheral surface (13) only in the region located far apart from both of the end surfaces (2A and 2B) of the flange portion (2).

    • An annular recess is formed in a vehicle inner side of a wheel rolling bearing device. A protective cover is attached to an inner ring disposed in a bottom side of the recess to protect an annular magnetic encoder. A cover body of the protective cover is formed with an annular first disk portion covering the magnetic encoder, a cylindrical portion extending from a radial outer end of the first disk portion and fitted into an inner circumferential wall of the recess, and a second disk portion extending radially outward from an upper end of the cylindrical portion and covering the end portion of the outer ring located around the recess. The cover body is formed with a to-be-separated portion constituted by at least one of half-cut grooves and perforations extending in a radial direction of the cover body.
