摘要： A liquid crystal display of the present invention contains a first panel and a second panel being stacked. Adjacent pairs of polarizers (A to C) disposed on the panels form crossed Nicols. When the first panel produces a display according to a first display signal, the second panel produces a display according to a second display signal obtained from the first display signal. Each of the two joined panels is provided with a light diffusion layer having a light diffusing property. The provision of the light diffusion layers enables reducing moire pattern occurrences which would otherwise markedly increase when two liquid crystal panels are stacked. As a result, the liquid crystal display has high display quality.

摘要： In cases where the amount of gradation transition is greater than a threshold value, a modulation processing section corrects image data D of a current frame by making an interpolation calculation with reference to a look-up table, and output the image data D thus corrected. In cases where the amount of gradation transition is not more than the threshold value, the modulation processing section directly outputs the image data D of the current frame. Furthermore, in one embodiment of the present invention, the look-up table contains, as output image data D2 corresponding to a case where the image data D of the current frame is identical to image data D0 of a previous frame, a value which is neither of the image data D of the current frame and the image data D0 of the previous frame and by which output image data D2 corresponding to the inputted image data D and D0 of the previous and current frames is calculated according to the interpolation calculation in cases where the amount of gradation transition is greater than the threshold value. With this, an image display apparatus is realized which can be balanced between a reduction in circuit size and an improvement in display quality at a higher level.

摘要： In the first display mode, a first tone converting circuit and a second tone converting circuit of a control LSI divide one frame period of an input image signal into a plurality of sub-frame periods to perform output to a display panel, thus realizing image display performed by time-division driving (pseudo-impulse driving). In the second display mode, the control LSI directly outputs an input image signal to the display panel, thus realizing image display performed by hold driving. In at least one embodiment, switching between the first display mode and the second display mode is performed by changing output of an output data selector according to a mode switching signal. This realizes an image display apparatus which effectively obtains the effect of suppressing blurring of a moving image and alleviates the problem of flickers caused by pseudo-impulse driving.

摘要： An evaluation apparatus of a liquid crystal display device in accordance with the present invention is provided with a signal section for supplying a signal to a liquid crystal panel to be evaluated; a display detection section for sensing a display state on the liquid crystal panel; an analysis section for analyzing a detection result of the display detection section. The signal section supplies to the liquid crystal panel a signal corresponding to an original tone and then, in accordance with tone transition from the original tone to an attainment tone, either (i) an overshoot test signal or (ii) both an overshoot test signal and an undershoot test signal in test driving, while sweeping either a level of the signal (i) or levels of both the signals (ii). The analysis section analyzes detection results of the display detection section obtained in the test driving and stores in association with the original tone and the attainment tone, a level of the test signal that corresponds to an optimum one of the detection results. With this, it is possible to easily and highly accurately obtain an optimum level of the overshoot signal or the undershoot signal for the liquid crystal panel to be evaluated.

摘要： In a method of driving a liquid crystal panel, an overshoot signal is applied to the liquid crystal panel to display images on the liquid crystal panel. An overshoot level C is selected from a plurality of overshoot levels Dn. In this selecting, difference values between momentary values of a response waveform gn and momentary values of an ideal waveform f are obtained and added for a predetermined period and a minimum first error value E1 is obtained. One of the overshoot levels Dn corresponding to the response waveform gn having the minimum first error value E1 is selected as the overshoot level C. One of the overshoot levels Dn is selected by using an average value from the values obtained for the predetermined period similarly to humans' recognition of the liquid crystal display element. Accordingly, tailing or an image failure is less likely to occur.

摘要： A method of driving a liquid crystal panel includes setting a gradation voltage corresponding to each gradation level with using a setting gamma function, and selecting the gradation voltage from a group of gradation voltages corresponding to a gradation level of the signal with using a selecting gamma function. A gamma value of the setting gamma function is different from a gamma value of the selecting gamma function. According to the driving method, if the gradation voltage that easily causes tailing or an image failure and the gradation voltage that hardly causes tailing or an image failure are applied to the display according to the gradation level of the input data signal, the gamma value of the setting gamma function is adjusted and unevenness is less likely to be caused by the gradation voltage. Accordingly, tailing or an image failure is less likely to occur.
