    • A microscope system includes: a stage that shifts a specimen in x and y directions; a detection section that detects a position of the stage after shifting; a reception section that receives an input of a shift target position for the stage inputted by an observer; an optical system that forms a light flux into a focused and magnified image of the specimen; an image capturing section that captures the magnified image; and a shift section that, if the position detected by the detection section and the shift target position received by the reception section do not agree with one another, shifts a relative positional relationship between the light flux and the image capturing section.

    • A microscope system according to the present invention comprises a stage on which a specimen is placed, an image forming optical system that forms an image of the specimen placed on the stage, an image-capturing device that captures the image of the specimen formed by the image forming optical system, a focused position detection device that detects a focused position for the specimen based upon the specimen image captured by the image-capturing device and a focused position storage device that stores in memory the focused position detected by the focused position detection device. The focused position detection device sets a search range centered around the focused position stored in memory at the focused position storage device and detects the focused position anew by causing the stage and the image forming optical system to move relative to each other over the search range thus set each time a focusing operation is executed.

    • A specific value for the magnification factor to be achieved for a specimen image is input to observe the specimen through a microscope. An optical system magnification factor and an electronic zoom magnification factor are calculated so as to achieve this specific value. When there are a plurality of optical systems with varying magnification factors, the optical system that achieves the calculated magnification factor is inserted at an observation optical path. When outputting image signals by capturing an image of the specimen formed by the optical system, the specimen image is obtained at the electronic zoom magnification factor that has been calculated. As a result, it is possible to obtain an image of the specimen which achieves a magnification factor determined in conformance to the product of the magnification factor of the optical system and the electronic zoom magnification factor.
