    • Systems, methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture to provide root re-selection in a spanning tree protocol are disclosed. An example method includes transmitting, from a current root device on a playback network, a query message to a router on the playback network. The example method includes evaluating a response received from at least one intermediate device between the current root and the router, the at least one intermediate device relaying the query message from the root to the router and transmitting a response back to the current root device indicating a root path cost associated with that intermediate device. The example method includes determining, based on the received root path cost(s), an updated designation of a new root device for the playback network. The example method includes, if the new root device is different from the current root device, exchanging bridge priority between the current root and the new root.

    • Systems, methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture to facilitate connection to a multimedia playback network are disclosed. An example wireless device includes a wireless communication interface to identify a first network within range of the wireless device available for connection and to facilitate connection of the wireless device to the first network. The example wireless device includes a processor to add the first network to a registry of networks for connection by the wireless device. The example wireless device includes a signal strength monitor to monitor one or more available networks from the network registry that are within range of the wireless device. The example processor is to evaluate the available network(s) to identify a preferred network for connection based on at least one network characteristic and facilitate a switch from connection of the wireless device to the first network if the preferred network is different from the first network.

    • Certain embodiments provide systems, methods, and apparatus for playback network diagnostics. An example method includes facilitating a connection between a server and a first playback device, the first playback device connected with a plurality of playback devices via a network, the first playback including a network topology. The example method includes receiving, at the server, data collected at the first playback device. The example method includes receiving, at the server via the first playback device, data collected from each of the plurality of playback devices identified in the network topology of the first playback device, the data routed by the first playback device to the server. The example method includes analyzing the received data to determine a status of the playback devices in the network topology.
