摘要： A system and method of relay code design and factor graph decoding using a forward and a backward decoding scheme. The backward decoding scheme exploits the idea of the analytical decode-and-forward coding protocol and hence has good performance when the relay node is located relatively close to the source node. The forward decoding scheme exploits the idea of the analytical estimate-and-forward protocol and hence has good performance when the relay node is located relatively far from the source node. The optimal decoding factor graph is first broken into partial factor graphs and then solved iteratively using either the forward or backward decoding schemes.

In particular, density functions ƒV(1)(i) and ƒV(2)(i) of the output edges of the variable nodes with degree i within different codeword regions w1 and we, respectively, are defined and then calculated. Further, density functions ƒC(1)(j) and ƒC(2)(j) of the output edges for check nodes with degree j within codeword regions w1 and we, respectively, are defined and then calculated. Mixture density functions of output check edges connecting variable nodes in the first codeword region and the second codeword region are then calculated to determine an LDPC code design.

摘要： A quantized multi-rank beamforming technique that is adapted based on feedback from a receiver containing information that captures the existence of multiple transmission modes of the channel between the transmitter and receiver. The modes of the channel can be represented by a set of orthonormal eigenvectors. Rank selection chooses the optimum number of modes for transmission in order to maximize the transmitted rate or guarantee the highest reliability based on the channel state information provided through the feedback link. In order to fully exploit the feedback, which is typically limited, different codebooks for different ranks are provided. Such a rank-specific codebook design can considerably improve the performance by allowing finer quantization of the transmission space. Power control across the various modes can also be provided. A power control strategy assigns a different fraction of the transmit power to each mode based on the feedback. The power control information can be included in the codebooks.
