    • An optical connector for making connection with a connecting partner side and releasing this connection is provided. The optical connector has an optical connector housing. The optical connector housing is formed by inserting a slider into a base end wall of an arm side member so as to be freely advanced and retreated. A cam following face is formed on an inner wall face of an arm portion of the arm side member. A claw portion is formed on a tip side of the arm portion. An opening angle driving cam member is connected to a tip side of the slider. A ferrule is arranged between the arm portions on a forward side of the opening angle driving cam member. When the slide is moved backward, the opening angle driving cam member is moved backward and is operated to angularly open the arm portion through the cam following face. This opening angle state is maintained by making the opening angle driving cam member abut on a stationary face of the cam following face. The claw portion is dislocated from an engaging position with the connecting partner side by the angular opening of the arm portion so that the connection of the optical connector is released.

The base portion undergoes elastic deformation at the first spring portion so that the shutter portion recedes from the optical path of the laser beam when the plug is pushed into the adapter to be attached thereto, and is restored from the elastic deformation so that the shutter portion intercepts the optical path of the laser beam when the plug is drawn out of the adapter to be detached therefrom.

    • The present invention provides a fiber optic connector which allows easy and secure assembly with a fiber optic cable, a supporting member used therein, and a method of assembling the fiber optic connector to the fiber optic cable. A member (41) which is used to fasten reinforcing members (105) extending from the fiber optic cable (100) is disposed in the vicinity of a rear end of an inner housing (40) of fiber optic connector (10). A supporting member (50) is fastened by crimping to an end portion of the fiber optic cable (100). An appropriate stripping operation is performed on the end portion of the fiber optic cable (100) so that optical fiber (150) and the reinforcing members (105) are exposed. Recesses (55a, 55b), which hold the reinforcing members are located in the supporting member (50). When optical fiber (150) of the fiber optic cable (100) is accommodated in a ferrule (30), the supporting member (50) is caused to engage a rear end of the inner housing (40); the reinforcing members (105) are disposed along member (41) of housing (40) whereafter they are fastened to member (41) by crimping sleeve (90) onto member (41).

A tape support member (18) is disposed at the connection end face (3) side of a multiple-core optical connector (4) attached on a machine, The tape support member(18) is linked to a supporting rod (21) which is able to freely advance and retreat along side plates (23a) and (23b), a tape travelling plane (9) shaped so as to correspond to a desired end face shape of bare optical fibers of a multiple-core optical connector (4) is formed at the tip end of the tape support member (18). The leading end of a polishing tape (32) wound on the pay-out roller (30) is advanced along the tape travelling plane (9) and is taken up on the winding roller (31). The polishing tape (32) is caused to travel by rotating the winding roller (31) together with the winding shaft (28), and the end faces of multiple-core bare optical fibers protruding forwards from the connection end face (3) of the multiple-core optical connector (4) are pressed to the polishing tape travelling along the tape travelling plane (9). As the tape is advanced, the pressing force of a biasing spring (26) presses the fiber end faces against the polishing tape and the tape support member and thereby polishes the fiber end faces to the desired face shape.
