摘要： A resin composition to be used as a resinous vehicle for an antifouling paint and a process for preparing the same, comprising reacting a mixture of(A) an acid group containing base resin having an acid value in the range of 25-350 mg KOH/g, selected from the group consisting of vinyl resin, polyester resin, alkyd resin and epoxy resin,(B) a metallic salt of low boiling organic basic acid having a boiling point in the range of 100.degree.-240.degree. C., the metal is selected from metals having a valence of 2 or more and a lesser ionization tendency than alkali metals, and(C) an organic monobasic acid having a boiling point of 20.degree. C. or more higher than said low boiling organic basic acid at an elevated temperature which is lower than the decomposition temperature of said metallic salt of said low boiling organic basic acid, while removing the formed low boiling organic basic acid out of the system. The subject composition provides superior antifouling coating compositions.

摘要： A substrate resin having pendant acid groups is produced by copolymerizing an acrylic or methacrylic ester of which alcoholic residue includes a bulky hydrocarbon radical or a soft segment. The substrate resin is then metallized together with an organic mobobasic acid so that both of the pendant acid group and the organic monobasic acid group are bount to the same metal atom. The resulting hydrolyzable metal-containing resin is incorporated into self-polishing antifouling paint formulations together with an antifouling pigment such as cuprous oxide.

Also disclosed is a substrate with a hard coat film excellent in adhesiveness with the substrate, abrasion resistance, scratch strength, pencil hardness and the like without interference fringes and a coating solution which may form the hard coat film. The substrate with a hard coat film is composed of composite oxide particles formed on at least one surface of the substrate and a matrix component, wherein the composite oxide particles are composite oxide particles having a core-shell structure composed of a core formed from zirconium oxide and a shell formed from antimony pentoxide and/or silica.
