摘要： A skin sealant composition having a film former like cyanoacrylate and a goniochromic dye or pigment is provided. The addition of mica/metal oxide powders to the sealant formulation makes it possible to see where it has been applied, due to the mica/metal oxide's goniochromic (e.g. irridescent or pearlescent) appearance, and it is also still possible to view the underlying skin, especially from an angle at which the color is less apparent. Thus, mica/titanium dioxide or other goniochromic or light interfering particles may be used as an additive to allow for determination of complete coverage, while not significantly obscuring the incision site.

摘要： There is provided a moisture indicator for a heat and moisture exchange (HME) device that uses a pre-colorant and an activator applied to an inner surface of the HME device. The colorant undergoes a color change of Delta E (ΔE) of equal to or greater than 3 units upon exposure to moisture but not upon exposure to high humidity. The colorant is visually obvious to the unaided human eye under normal light conditions through the body of the device. The HME device with the visual indicator for moisture can indicate to the care-giver that it is time to change the HME device.

摘要： Skin sealants are usually applied over skin preps to seal the skin and hold any remaining bacteria in place prior to surgical incisions. This sealant is generally left on the skin after surgery. A skin coating is provided that has an indicator that gives a visible color change upon contact with microbes or microbial by-products and so provides an early warning of infection. The coating is a curable coating composition that may also be used without skin preps and may be used to protect other disruptions in the skin like wounds, bruises, abrasions, burns, acne, blisters, bites, stings, punctures and cuts. It may also be used to close wounds or provide an additional barrier to other parts of the skin, such as the nails and mucosa.

摘要： A system for providing a method of sealing skin with a film forming polymer is provided. The system includes providing an at least two part applicator containing a sealant composition in one or more frangible containers, providing instructions for using the applicator associated therewith, where the method including moving at least one of said applicator parts from a first position to a second position and applying said sealant to skin. The composition has film former, a plasticizer and 3000 to 10000 ppm of a dye that changes color when is undergoes a phase change. The color change is visible to a human eye under normal light conditions. changing dyes may be used to indicate that the composition has dried. The dyes change color in response to the phase change, i.e., drying of the film former. The dye may be added either directly to the composition, incorporated into a sponge on an applicator through which the composition is dispensed and applied, applied separately or applied simultaneously from a separate reservoir. The amount of dye in the composition can be adjusted to provide a visual cue to the user of the application area and the extent of cure though should generally be in the range of 3000 to 10000 ppm.

摘要： Iodine is used in about 80 percent of surgeries in the US to remove some level of microbial load on the skin prior to making an incision. Skin sealants are applied over skin preps to seal the skin and hold any remaining bacteria in place. Iodine produces a characteristic orange-brown color on skin. A skin sealant is provided that has a decolorant that reacts with the iodine found in most skin preps, rendering the skin prep colorless. A skin sealant containing ascorbic acid (vitamin C), Indigo Carmine or Indigo will react with the iodine, thus visually indicating where the skin prep and sealant have been applied and allowing an unobstructed view of the incision.

摘要： The present invention describes a method of neutralizing an organic colorant or stain. The method enables a user to discharge a discoloration caused by staining with a substance having at least a molecular structure containing either a macrocyclic or linear hematin or linear unsaturated carbon chains or a cyclic aromatic chromophore in a rapid and effective manner. The method, in part involves, treating the discoloration with a medium containing unsaturated fatty acids or esters thereof, and a surfactant or a cell-lysing agent in amounts expressed as a ratio ranging from about 1:5, up to about 30:1, respectively. The color of said stain is reduced by a ΔE value of 5 or greater.
