    • An air conditioner in which, when a first compressor is being operated and a second compressor is being stopped, liquid refrigerant does not flow into the second compressor even in a state of wet vapor suction, a decrease in lubricating oil in the second compressor or a decline in its concentration are not experienced, and breakage of the second compressor does not occur owing to faulty lubrication when the second compressor is started. In addition, to obtain an air conditioner which does not lapse into a wasteful shortage of cooling and heating capabilities when the air conditioner is not in the state of wet vapor suction, by reliably detecting the presence or absence of the state of wet vapor suction. In the air conditioner, the first compressor and the second compressor are connected together by an equalizing pipe. A bypass passage which connects together a discharge pipe and a suction pipe of the second compressor is provided.

    • A device for adjusting the length of a support composed of an outer tube and an inner tube slidably inserted in the outer tube, includes an opening extending radially through the outer tube, a spacer radially movably received in the opening and confronted with an outer surface of the inner tube, a housing mounted on the outer tube in confronting relation to the opening, and a wedge slidably inserted in the housing to force the spacer radially inwardly against the inner tube. With this construction, the inner tube and the outer tube can be firmly fastened together with a great tightening force without damaging the inner tube. A stopper pivoted on the wedge and normally urged upward by a spring is able to preclude an unintended omission of driving the wedge or an incompletely driven or tightened condition of the wedge.

    • Disclosed herein is a support system for use in forming a temporary scaffolding such as a prefabricated scaffolding, a temporary system such as a panel support, or a structure such as a truss-type pillar, tower, etc. The support system comprises columnar members each provided with a plurality of flanges along the longitudinal direction thereof, connecting members each provided with joint shoes at both ends thereof, and wedges each driven into the joint shoe, the flanges each comprising a supporting piece along the circumferential direction thereof, the joint shoes each comprising a hollow housing having a pair of opposed wall bodies, and a hook loosely fitted movably in the housing, the wall bodies and the hook being provided with respective wedge insertion holes opposed to each other, and the hook being provided at an end portion thereof with a catch portion to be engaged with the supporting piece of the flange. When the wedge is driven into the wedge insertion holes in the condition where the catch portion is opposed to the supporting piece, the hook is retracted with the result of engagement of the catch portion with the supporting piece, whereas end portions of the wall bodies are pushed outward into contact with the outer surface of the columnar member.
