The determined impedance is, for example, used to control energization of a heater built in or affixed to the sensor element to control the activation of the sensor element for ensuring the accuracy in measuring the concentration of a gas.

摘要： A gas concentration measuring apparatus is provided which works to measure the concentration of a gas using a gas sensor element. The apparatus also works to determine the impedance of the gas sensor element through an arithmetic circuit for use in controlling the activation or diagnosis of the gas sensor element. The arithmetic circuit uses a command signal from a sensor controller to determine a sampling time at which a change in voltage applied to the sensor element or current flowing therethrough that is a function of the impedance of the sensor element is to be sampled. This permits the impedance to be calculated accurately in a simplified manner without use of a resource such as a timer.

摘要： A heater controller designed to control the thermal energy produced by a heater under feedback control for heating a body of a gas sensor up to a desired activated temperature. The heater controller works to determine a feedback gain such a proportional or an integral gain as a function of a deviation of the temperature of the gas sensor from a target one and change it based on a condition in which the temperature of the gas sensor is changing from the target value. This ensures the stability of control of the temperature of the gas sensor regardless of a disturbance such as a change in ambient temperature and keeps the accuracy of gas measurement at a higher level.

摘要： A heater control system is provided for controlling the temperature of a heater used to heat a solid electrolyte-made sensor element of a gas concentration sensor up to a given temperature at which the sensor element is activated to provide a correct gas concentration output for controlling a preselected variable used in, for example, an automotive air-fuel ratio control system. The heater control system measures a resistance value of the sensor element and controls an electric power supplied to the heater as a function of the resistance value. The heater control system is designed to determine a controlled variable properly used to control the heater, thereby resulting in improved controllability of a power supply to the heater and also works to minimize an error in determining the resistance of the heater.

摘要： A gas concentration measuring apparatus is provided which includes a gas concentration sensor consisting of a pump cell, a sensor cell, and a monitor cell. The pump cell works to determine the concentration of O2. The sensor cell works to decompose an oxygen containing gas such as NOx and provide an output indicative of the concentration of NOx. The apparatus also includes an applying voltage determining circuit which looks up a predetermined voltage-to-current relation to determine a target voltage to be applied to the pump cell as a function of the current produced by the pump cell so as to preclude the pump cell from decomposing the oxygen containing gas component, thereby minimizing an error in determining the concentration of oxygen containing gas as a function of the output of the sensor cell.

摘要： A gas concentration measuring apparatus which has a gas sensor designed to measure, for example, the concentrations of O2 and HOx contained in exhaust emissions of an automotive engine is provided. The apparatus includes a signal processing circuit which converts a current signal outputted from the gas sensor as a function of the concentration of either of O2 and NOx into a voltage signal. The gas sensor and the signal processing circuit are connected electrically through a conductor. The conductor has a length which is determined as a function of a level of the current signal outputted from the gas sensor. The weaker the level of the current signal is, the shorter the length of the conductor. This minimizes addition of electrical noises to the current signal outputted from the gas sensor.

The heater power supply control system works to limit the value of an integral term of the PI control function in the course of activation of the sensor element, thereby avoiding overshoot of the resistance value of the sensor element, which avoids thermal damage of the sensor element.
