摘要： A storage device includes a S.M.A.R.T. information processor that periodically diagnoses physical and functional condition of the storage device and stores diagnostic information about the condition of the storage device in a magnetic disk and a storage unit. Upon receiving a request for the diagnostic information from a host computer, the S.M.A.R.T. information processor determines whether the magnetic disk is in standby mode. The S.M.A.R.T. information processor acquires the diagnostic information from the storage unit if the magnetic disk is in standby mode, and notifies the diagnostic information to the host computer.

摘要： A disk managing apparatus is configured so that an operation mode of a disk device is set to be in a standby mode by default and an access managing unit continuously acquires an operation state of the disk device. Upon receiving a disk access request, and if the operation mode is the standby mode, the access managing unit checks the operation mode and sends a query about accessibility of the disk device to the power managing unit. Upon receiving an access permission, the access managing unit accesses the disk device and switches the operation mode to be in the active state. Furthermore, the data-transfer processing unit transfers frequently-accessed data to a frequently-accessed disk device.

摘要： In a storage system, a plurality of RAID devices are connected to a network, and data is multiplexed to primary data and secondary data by being mirrored among the RAID devices. When a failure of a disk device that can be recovered within the devices owing to the RAID configuration occurs, data of a disk device corresponding to the failed disk device is requested to a RAID device that is its mirror target and the transferred data is written to a spare disk device for the recovery. At the time of the data recovery, an access right to a group of disk devices constituting RAID and an access right to individual disk devices are exclusively controlled with respect to an input and output of the primary data.

摘要： A network system which facilitates the task of replacing switches pertaining to a detected link failure. A server network is formed from a plurality of switches and links. The link state of each port on the switches is being monitored by a link-down detector, and a switch port that has entered a link-down state from a link-up state is identified as an inoperative port. Upon detection of such a link-down event, a function disabler disables link functions of specified ports of other switches in the switch group to which the switch having the inoperative port belongs, so that the servers on the network will change their setups all at once and continue the communication through new paths.
