    • The brush abrasion detector is unnecessary to provide any detecting element for detecting limit of abrasion of a brush in the proximity of the brush. The brush abrasion detector includes: a brush located being slidably press-fitted to a slip ring provided at an end portion of a field winding of a generator, and supplying an excitation current from a battery to the field winding; a current detection circuit for detecting a current value flowing through the field winding via the brush; an output voltage detection circuit for detecting an output voltage value from the generator; and a brush abrasion determination circuit for determining abrasion state of the brush based on a current value detected by the current detection circuit or an output voltage value detected by the output voltage detection circuit.

    • A control apparatus of an AC generator for use in vehicles is disclosed which includes an AC generator having a field coil, a storage battery to be charged by a rectified output of the AC generator, a voltage regulator for regulating the output voltage of the AC generator and an excessive temperature controller that includes a triangular wave generator, a temperature detection circuit and a comparator. The controller controls the on-time ratio of a power transistor so that the field current flowing through the field coil is changed in accordance with output of the comparator which compares the output level of the temperature detection circuit and the triangular wave output of the triangular wave generator.

    • A control system for a vehicular generator is provided which can be simplified in construction as the entire system to achieve cost reduction by using only a single control terminal that takes in a control signal from outside and by employing the control signal composed of only three kinds of signals. The system includes a generator 2 having an armature coil 202 and a field coil 201, a battery 4 to be charged by a power generation voltage, and a control circuit 1A that adjusts the power generation voltage by controlling to turn a field current supplied to the field coil 201 on and off in accordance with a battery voltage. A single control terminal C is provided on the control circuit 1A, and an external control unit 5 is connected to the control terminal C. The external control unit 5 supplies either one of a ground signal, an open signal and a pull-up signal to the control terminal C as a control signal in accordance with the battery voltage and an operating condition of the vehicle. The control circuit 1A interrupts the field current to stop power generation in response to the ground signal, adjust the power generation voltage to a first control voltage for normal time in response to the open signal, and adjusts the power generation voltage to a second control voltage higher than the first control voltage in response to the pull-up signal.

    • A control apparatus for an AC generator in which a storage battery 4 is connected to the field coil 102 of the generator, and through a rectifier 2 to the armature coil 101 of the generator to be charged thereby. A voltage regulator 3 is connected between the generator and the battery for controlling the current supply to the field coil, and includes a switch 306 connected in series with the field coil for turning the current supply on and off to control the output voltage of the generator. A detector 6A or 6B is connected between the armature coil and the battery and between the rectifier and the battery for detecting the operating state of the generator and attendantly operating an indicator 7. The detector includes a switch 605, 607 for turning the indicator on and off, an emitter follower transistor 610 connected through the rectifier to the armature coil for controlling the switch based on the generation signal, and a relatively small capacitor 603 connected to the transistor for smoothing the generation signal. An adjuster 310, 311 may be connected between the voltage regulator and the detector for detecting the output voltage of the transistor and reducing the generation signal to a value lower than that to which it is normally controlled by the voltage regulator.
