    • A head gimbal assembly includes a micro-actuator, a slider, and a suspension that supports the micro-actuator and the slider. The micro-actuator includes a metal frame including a top support to support the slider, a bottom support to connect to the suspension, and a pair of side arms that interconnect the top support and the bottom support. The top support includes a rotatable plate and connection arms that couple the rotatable plate to respective side arms. A PZT element is mounted to each of the side arms. Each PZT element is excitable to cause selective movement of the side arms. The suspension includes a load beam having a dimple that engages and supports the rotatable plate in use.

    • A HGA of the present invention includes a slider; a micro-actuator comprising two thin film PZT pieces to define a notch; a suspension to load the slider and the micro-actuator. The suspension comprises: a flexure having an actuator loading portion with a slot corresponding to the notch of the micro-actuator, and a slider-loading portion to partially hold the slider; and a load beam having a first dimple to support the flexure at a position thereof corresponding to a central area of the slider, and a second dimple extending through both the slot of the flexure and the notch defined by the micro-actuator and toward an leading edge end portion of the slider to form a gap between the slider and the second dimple. The invention also discloses a disk drive unit having the improved HGA.

In certain example embodiments, the micro-actuator may comprise a substantially U-shaped frame including a cavity capable of receiving a slider, with the frame including two side arms and a bottom support arm at least partially defining the cavity. The bottom support arm may have a reduced mass capable of providing improved shock performance and capable of conveying a high resonance frequency response at a low gain. The bottom support arm may be, for example, substantially rectangle shaped, substantially I-shaped, toothed, etc. Also, the bottom support arm may be less thick than the side arms.

    • A micro-actuator for a head gimbal assembly includes a support frame including a bottom support adapted to be connected to a suspension of the head gimbal assembly, a top support adapted to support a slider of the head gimbal assembly, and a leading beam that couples the bottom support and the top support. The leading beam includes weak points or notches that allow the top support to rotate about a rotational axis in use.     • A suspension for a HGA includes a suspension flexure and an out trigger. The suspension flexure has a tongue region having a first flexure part in a tip portion thereof for mounting a trailing edge of a slider and a PZT mounting region for mounting PZT elements. One end of the out trigger is connected to the suspension flexure, and the other end of the out trigger has a trigger support portion which extends above the tongue region so as to support the leading edge of the slider. The structure of the out trigger is capable of stiffening the tongue region of the suspension flexure and, in turns, avoiding the deformation problem and the dimple separation problem during the manufacturing process or in vibration or shock events. The invention also discloses a HGA with the suspension, manufacturing methods of the HGA and a disk drive unit having such HGA.

    • Systems and methods for reducing flexure distortion and/or gimbal separation for thin-film piezoelectric transducer (PZT) micro-actuators for head gimbal assemblies (HGA) of disk drive devices are provided. In certain example embodiments, a head gimbal assembly may comprise a suspension including a suspension flexure. The suspension flexure may include a micro-actuator mounting region. A micro-actuator may be mounted to the micro-actuator mounting region of the suspension flexure. At least one support may be formed on the micro-actuator mounting region, such that the support increases the stiffness of the suspension flexure. The supports may be a single bar-shape, two separated bar-shapes, circle-shaped, rectangle-shaped, cross-shaped, etc. The supports may be made of metal, and they may be formed by chemical etching.
