The felt discs are made up from pie-shaped or rectangular brush elements the outer peripheries of which are subdivided into sample and/or compound fingers by a pattern of long and short slits. Brush elements are also provided which translate in a facewise manner. Brush material is minimized and reconstruction of the brush is made more efficient.

摘要： An above the floor conveyor is provided for transporting a wheeled vehicle having a plurality of tires across a floor surface with a pair of the vehicle's tires oriented in a guided track. The conveyor includes a drive and idle sprocket which are spaced apart and have an endless tensile member extending in a loop thereabout to define a drive and a return flight. A series of dolly assemblies are attached to the endless conveyor tensile member in spaced apart orientation. The dolly assemblies have an elongated dolly roller for engaging a tire of a vehicle located within the guided track. The dollies are pivotable about a generally vertical dolly axis between an inactive position in which the dolly roller is pivoted rearwardly out of the guided tracks and an active position in which a dolly roller extends inwardly into the guided track. The dolly assembly has an arm extending outwardly from the pivot axis providing a follower spaced from the axis. A dolly guide rail is fixed parallel to the drive flight for cooperating with the dolly follower to support the dolly when in the active position. An actuator is provided to selectively shift the dolly between the inactive and active positions on demand.

A plurality of spacers are supportable with respect to a path of travel for a vehicle to be cleaned and are arranged in first and second stacked or sandwiched groups of spacers for oscillating or rotating movement about a common axis of rotation or axial shifting oscillation along a common axis. The spacers are of a color different from that of the rest of the fixed structure of the laundering implement so that when the implement is in operation the moving spacers and cloth elements create an attractive and attention-getting visual effect. The colors of the spacers may be customized to suit the desires of any particular purchaser or operator of the vehicle laundry system. Each spacer has opposite complimentary faces matable with an opposing face of an adjacent spacer. A plurality of cloth elements are interposed between adjacent stacked spacers for movement in concert therewith. At least a portion of a cloth element is interposed between adjacent spacers. The interposed portion of the element is pinched between a projection extending from one spacer and into engagement with the adjacent spacer, and the cloth element and adjacent spacers are compressively sandwiched toward one another.

The dryer includes a frame, a nozzle for directing a stream of air against the vehicle, and an arm pivotally connecting the nozzle to the frame. A drive mechanism raises and lowers the arm to enable the nozzle to follow the contour of the vehicle. The drive mechanism includes a follower affixed to the arm, a rotary drive member cooperating with the follower and a drive motor operably connected to the drive member. The nozzle and arm are lowered by the force of gravity which urges a follower into engagement with the drive member. The follower is capable of being lifted free of the drive member to enable the nozzle to rise up in the event of contact with the vehicle thereby minimizing damage thereto.

The surface treatment implement, such as a rotary brush, is carried at the free end of one or more secondary support arms which are in turn pivotally connected to one or more spaced apart primary support arms, said primary support arms being driven in rotation about an axis in accordance with signals as determined by the orientation of the secondary arms relative to a fixed reference which is in turn a function of the contact pressure between the brush and the vehicle surface being treated. Vehicles to be treated approach from the free ends of the primary arms, which rotate about the axis as necessary to maintain the brush in contact with the surface of the vehicle. In a preferred embodiment, the axis is horizontal and is well below the maximum height of vehicles to be treated.

摘要： A variable pressure spray type vehicle laundry apparatus in which a carriage is mounted for longitudinal displacement along overhead parallel beams and an inverted L shaped spray arm carrying both horizontally and vertically directed nozzles circumscribes the vehicle to be laundered. In the preferred embodiment two reversely similar L shaped spray arms are used and caused to operate through a butterfly type cycle to spray various fluids at different pressures on the vehicle. For low pressure operations, the twin arm system is centered over the vehicle and both spray arms are supplied with low pressure fluid at the same time. For high pressure operations, the left and right spray arms are operated in sequence and each is maintained at an optimal spray arm to vehicle spacing during its operating cycle. The carriage is provided with a laterally translatable shuttle structure for this purpose.
