摘要： Technologies for media protection policy enforcement include a computing device having multiple operating systems and a data storage device partitioned into a number of regions. During execution of each of the operating systems, a policy enforcement module may intercept media access requests and determine whether to allow the media access requests based on platform media access policies. The media access policies may allow requests based on the identity of the executing operating system, the region of the data storage device, or the requested storage operation. Prior to loading a selected operating system, a firmware policy enforcement module may determine a region of the disk storage device to protect from the selected operating system. The firmware policy enforcement module may configure the data storage device to prevent access to that region. The media access policies may be stored in one or more firmware variables. The NVRAM is byte-addressable by the processor and can be configured into one or more partitions, with each partition implementing a different tier of the platform storage hierarchy. The NVRAM can be used as mass storage that can be accessed without a storage driver.

摘要： During a process of transitioning a processing system from sleep mode to active mode, system firmware of the processing system may automatically determine whether an initialization task has been assigned to a component other than system firmware, based on data obtained from a resume descriptor stored in nonvolatile storage of the processing system. The system firmware may skip the initialization task if the initialization task has been assigned to a component other than the system firmware. For example, in one embodiment, the system firmware may determine whether the resume descriptor identifies one or more memory ranges. If so, the system firmware may forego initialization of at least one memory range identified in the resume descriptor when initializing a random access memory (RAM) of the processing system. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

A power profile is accessed for a storage array including a plurality of storage units, wherein each storage unit is enabled to operate in one of a plurality of power consumption modes, and wherein the power profile indicates a power mode specifying a power consumption mode. Data is migrated from at least one storage unit to at least one storage unit designated as an active storage unit consuming power in an active power consumption mode. The power consumption mode of at least one storage unit not designated as active is altered to the specified power consumption mode indicated in the accessed profile, wherein the specified power consumption mode consumes less power than the active power consumption mode.
