摘要： This document provides methods and materials for modulating afferent nerve signals to treat medical conditions such as CHF, CHF respiration, dyspnea, peripheral vascular disease (e.g., peripheral arterial disease or venous insufficiency), hypertension (e.g., age-associated hypertension, resistant hypertension, or chronic refractory hypertension), COPD, sleep apnea, and chronic forms of lung disease where muscle dysfunction is a part of the disease pathophysiology. For example, methods and materials involved in using electrical and/or chemical techniques to block or reduce afferent nerve signals (e.g., nerve signals of group III and/or IV afferents coming from skeletal muscle and/or the kidneys) are provided.

摘要： In accordance with some embodiments, systems, methods, and media for estimating compensatory reserve and predicting hemodynamic decompensation using physiological data are provided. In some embodiments, a system for estimating compensatory reserve is provided, the system comprising: a processor programmed to: receive a blood pressure waveform of a subject; generate a first sample of the blood pressure waveform with a first duration; provide the sample as input to a trained CNN that was trained using samples of the first duration from blood pressure waveforms recorded from subjects while decreasing the subject's central blood volume, each sample being associated with a compensatory reserve metric; receive, from the trained CNN, a first compensatory reserve metric based on the first sample; and cause information indicative of remaining compensatory reserve to be presented.

摘要： This document provides methods and materials for enhancing the storage capabilities of red blood cell preparations. For example, methods and materials for using CO2 to store red blood cells in a manner that (a) reduces the level of glucose or 2,3-DPG consumption of or reduces the level of 2,3-DPG production by a red blood cell preparation, (b) reduces the level of lactate formation by a red blood cell preparation, and/or (c) reduces the pH level of a red blood cell preparation are provided. Such methods and materials can result in prolonging the useful lifespan of the red blood cells of the red blood cell preparation. This document also provides methods and materials involved in prolonging useful storage of platelet preparations. For example, methods and materials for storing platelets in a manner that reduces platelet metabolism, that preserves platelet function, and/or that reduces the risk of bacterial contamination are provided.
