摘要： A parasitic array antenna and a beamforming method for such a parasitic array antenna are disclosed. The parasitic array antenna may include a single driven element at the center of a ground plane. The driven element may be surrounded by multiple parasitic elements. RF loading may be selectively applied to each parasitic element. When symmetric loading is applied to the parasitic elements, the parasitic array antenna may function as an omnidirectional antenna. When asymmetric loading is applied to the parasitic elements, a null and a directional beam may be formed for the parasitic array antenna, therefore providing beamforming capabilities to the parasitic array antenna.

摘要： An optical system is described. The optical system has an optical amplifier array. The optical amplifier array has an array of optical amplifiers. Each optical amplifier has an optical amplifier region including a semiconductor active region having a direct electronic band gap with a conduction band edge. The semiconductor active region is embedded within a photonic crystal having an electromagnetic band gap having photon energies overlapping the energy of the conduction band edge of the electronic band gap such that spontaneous emission of photons in the semiconductor active region is suppressed.

A metallization layer is coupled with the ground plane layer and includes a first asymmetric cluster including HOF scattering members and impedance-matching dipoles. A first electrically-large impedance-matching dipole is coupled with one of the conductive probes and is associated with the first asymmetric cluster. The first electrically-large impedance-matching dipole and the first asymmetric cluster may cooperate with one another to produce a signal. A second asymmetric cluster includes HOF scattering members and impedance-matching dipoles. A second electrically-large impedance-matching dipole is coupled with the other conductive probe and is associated with the second asymmetric cluster. The electrically-large impedance-matching dipole and the asymmetric cluster may cooperate with one another to produce a second signal having a polarization orthogonal to the polarization of the first signal.
