    • This invention relates to an air bag inflation gas generator to feed gas for inflation of air bags such as air bags for absorbing collision shocks, life jackets, rubber, rafts, and escape chutes. The present invention comprises combustion chambers accommodating gas generating agents formed with separating members in the both ends of an elongate cylinder having gas outlets in the middle thereof, a cylindrical final filter installed inside the middle of the cylinder, intermediary filters installed between the final filter and the separating members in the cylinder, and orifices, facing toward the intermediary filters, opened at the separating members. The present invention may generate much larger volume of combustion gas generated from gas generating agents than the prior generators, purify a large volume of combustion gas completely, and control the burning of gas generating agents.

    • An air bag inflation gas generator to feed combustion gas for inflation of air bags such as air gas for absorbing collision shocks, life jackets, rafts and escape chutes, that aim to easily and surely control the flow rate of combustion gas into the air bag at the initial inflation of the air bag and to effectively utilize the entire purifying filter. The generator has a longitudinal outer cylindrical member having a plurality of gas outlets in its outer periphery, an inner cylindrical member inserted in the outer cylindrical member having gas flow openings formed in the outer periphery, a final filter disposed between the outer cylindrical member and the inner cylindrical member, a plurality of gas generating agents accommodated in a laminated state in the axial direction of the inner cylindrical member having a through hole formed at the center, and an igniter and an ignition agent disposed at one end of the inner cylindrical member and a shielding member for shielding the through hole is disposed at the gas generating agent or between the gas generating agents disposed at the middle part of the inner cylindrical member. This invention forms a plurality of gas flow openings in the substantial part of the outer periphery of the inner cylindrical member, and the hole area of these gas flow openings are designed to be larger as they get a way from the gas outlets of the outer cylindrical member.

    • An air bag system includes an air bag folded so that an occupant-restraining face of the air bag which restrains an occupant upon a deployment is hidden inside a central portion of the folded air bag, and a retaining member for covering said folded air bag. The air bag is deployed by breaking a breaking portion provided on the retaining member, whereupon the retaining member is opened so that it is divided into a plurality of deployment-inhibiting portions, and the plurality of deployment-inhibiting portions are brought into engagement with an upper block and a lower block of an outer peripheral portion of the air bag deployed from the folded state, respectively, thereby delaying the deployment of the outer peripheral portion. Therefore, the occupant-restraining face of the folded air bag can be deployed at the very first to effectively restrain the occupant.
