    • An optical-recording-medium playback apparatus includes a first optical member which focuses light emitted from a light-emitting unit on an optical recording medium, a second optical member which focuses light reflected by the optical recording medium, a light-receiving unit which receives the light focused by the second optical member, and a pinhole which is disposed between the second optical member and the light-receiving unit. The focal point of the light focused by the first optical member and that of the light focused by the second optical member correspond to each other. Accordingly, when the pinhole only transmits light which passes through positions around the focal point of the second optical member, stray light from positions around the focal point of the first optical member (in particular, light reflected by recording layers other than the one from which information is read out) can be removed.

    • There is provided an optical device which comprises a light-emitting portion for emitting a laser light, a light-receiving portion for receiving the light emitted from the light-emitting portion, and a converging portion for converging the light emitted from the light-emitting portion to thereby irradiate a portion to be irradiated and for converging a light reflected on and returned from the irradiated portion, wherein the light-receiving portion is located in the vicinity of a confocal point of the converging portion with respect to the light returned from the irradiated portion, the light emitted from the light-emitting portion is received by the light-receiving portion along a path which is coaxial before and after being reflected by the irradiated portion, a push-pull signal is detected by the light-receiving portion, and the push-pull signal is subjected to partial differentiation with the amount of defocus to obtain a coefficient which is used to detect a tracking error signal.

    • [Problem]To provide an actuator drive device that eliminates the need for high voltage amplifiers.[Means for Solving Problem]The electrostatic actuator drive device comprises a variable capacitor 12 connected in series with an electrostatic actuator 10, and a constant voltage source 11 for applying a constant voltage between the both ends of the serial connected electrostatic actuator 10 and the variable capacitor 12. The capacitance of the variable capacitor 12 is varied under control of a controller 14 for adjusting the voltage to be applied to the electrostatic actuator 10. The constant voltage source 11 may be any forms to apply a constant high voltage. The electrostatic actuator 10 is equivalently a capacitor. In this device, the capacitance of one of series connected two capacitors is varied for adjusting the voltage to be applied to the other capacitor, or the electrostatic actuator 10. The drive device does not use expensive high voltage amplifiers, is simple in construction and is able to quickly control the voltage to be applied to the electrostatic actuator 10.
