    • A trigger mechanism for a portable electric power tool which can be selectively oriented in one of three states being a Locked-off, an On, and a Locked-on state. The trigger mechanism includes a trigger having a first latch portion and an actuator for actuating a switch for energizing a motor, a lock button having a second latch portion, a latch return spring, and a lock button return spring. The trigger is shiftable longitudinally between a Trigger-off and a Trigger-on position, while the lock button is shiftable transversely between a Button-off and a Button-on position. When the trigger mechanism is in the Locked-off state, the lock button is in the Button-off position preventing the trigger from moving from the Trigger-off position. When the trigger mechanism is in the On state, the lock button has been shifted to the Button-on position so that the trigger is shiftable to the Trigger-on position thereby actuating the switch. When the trigger mechanism is in the Locked-on state, the operator positions the first latch portion so that by releasing the trigger while in the On state the first and second latch portions engage.

    • An auto hammer has a housing body and a nozzle portion connected to the housing. The housing body contains a striking device therein. The nozzle portion contains a sleeve and a sleeve support. The sleeve is retractable within the sleeve support and contains a nail attracting device therein. A magnet is arranged in the nail attracting device and is supported by at least one spring. The nail attracting device of the auto hammer is thus arranged in the sleeve and the spring is used to support the magnet to increase stability. After being attracted, the nail is positioned along the centerline of the sleeve so it becomes more convenient to use the nail attracting device.

    • A power tool has a housing and the housing includes a handle portion on which a starting switch for controlling the turning-on and turning-off of the power tool is mounted. A locking switch device adapted to selectively inhibit movement of the starting switch is mounted in the housing and includes first and second buttons respectively extending out from the two sides of the handle portion and positioned adjacent to the starting switch. A locking mechanism is arranged between the starting switch and the locking switch device and includes a linkage mechanism that is arranged between the first and second buttons. In this manner, upon one of the first and second button being pressed down, the linkage mechanism functions to cause the other one of the first and second buttons to be automatically moved to a position that corresponds to a pressed down state. The power tool with such a locking switch device is suitable for left-handed and right-handed operators and eliminates any uncomfortable feelings of handling the handle.

    • An orbital sander includes a motor, a housing, and a drive shaft rotatably driven by the motor about a drive axis. A bearing freely rotatable about a bearing axis is disposed eccentrically with respect to the drive axis to define an eccentric offset. A sanding platen is supported by the bearing. An input sleeve is interposed between the bearing and the drive shaft, and has an input axis spaced from the drive axis. An output sleeve, positioned within and engaging the bearing, encircles the input sleeve and is rotatable about the input axis. The sleeves are circumferentially aligned, thereby minimizing the height of the sander. A stop member cooperates with the sleeves to allow for rotation of the sanding platen while preventing axial movement of the sleeves. The sleeves have cooperating surfaces which limit their relative movement, defining maximum and minimum eccentric offsets based on the direction of motor rotation. An alternative embodiment provides cooperating surfaces which are capable of being separated, thus providing more than two possible eccentric offsets without requiring reversal of the direction of motor rotation.
