摘要： A communication system including: a transmission apparatus configured to modulate a first light by using a first signal to be transferred and a second signal having a frequency different from a frequency of the first signal so as to generate a first optical signal, modulate a second light by using a third signal to be transferred and a fourth signal having a frequency different from a frequency of the third signal so as to generate a second optical signal, polarization-multiplex the first optical signal and the second optical signal, and transmit a polarization-multiplexed optical signal in which the first optical signal and the second optical signal are polarization-multiplexed, each of the first light and the second light being polarized; and a measuring apparatus configured to measure powers of the second signal and the fourth signal which are included in the polarization-multiplexed optical signal transmitted from the transmission apparatus.

摘要： The invention aims to provide a monitoring method that can measure an optical SNR in an ultra high speed optical transmission system with high accuracy, and an optical transmission system using the same. To this end, in the optical transmission system to which the monitoring method of the present invention is applied, the degree of polarization of an optical signal transmitted from an optical transmission apparatus to an optical receiving apparatus via an optical transmission path is measured by a DOP measuring device, and an optical SNR of the optical signal is determined by an optical SNR calculation circuit based on a measured value of the degree of polarization.

The signal lights input and output by the first WSS and the second WSS are transmitted bidirectionally within a single optical transmission line.

All residual dispersion ranges of paths that reach corresponding nodes are adjusted to fall within predetermined tolerable residual dispersion ranges that are set up for all the paths of the link by adjusting wavelength dispersion compensators provided to each of the spans.
