    • A radio communication system searching method for a portable telephone terminal for selecting, when a plurality of radio communication systems having different carrier frequencies are present in a same area, a suitable one of the radio communication systems. The searching method is improved in that radio communication systems can be searched in order beginning with a radio communication system which is the most advantageous to the user to eliminate the problems of a disorder of company types of radio communication systems and system selection involved in adjacent systems of a same company type. After preferential order numbers of a plurality of radio communication systems are registered into the portable telephone terminal, a home radio communication system of a predetermined frequency with which the portable telephone terminal is under contract is first searched, and then, when the home radio communication system has not been searched out successfully, the remaining radio communication systems are successively searched in accordance with the preferential order numbers registered in advance in the portable telephone terminal.

    • In a first aspect of the invention, when it is expected to disconnect a booster during a call, the station class mark is changed to that applicable when a portable telephone is used as an independent unit in accordance with a key input from the user before the initiation of the call. In a second aspect of the invention, the telephone number of the remote party is stored in a memory during a call. When a connection or disconnection of a booster is detected, the call is terminated, and a redialing operation is automatically performed using the stored telephone number. In a third aspect of the invention, when the connection of a booster is detected during a call, an instruction is given to the booster to operate in a portable telephone mode. In a fourth aspect of the invention, when the connection or disconnection of a booster is detected during a call, a request to change the station class mark is sent to the base station.

    • A first ID code ESN (electronic serial number) for apparatus identification and a second ID code MIN (mobile identification number) such as a telephone number are stored beforehand in a non-volatile memory of a mobile telephone terminal. The mobile telephone terminal transmits these ID codes to a network at the time of communication, and whether or not this set of first and second ID codes has been registered is discriminated on the network side. Communication is allowed if the ID codes have been registered. In order to prevent unlawful use of the mobile telephone terminal in mobile communication, (1) the first ID code is encrypted on the side of a writing device and then inputted to the mobile telephone terminal when the first ID code is written in the non-volatile memory of the mobile telephone terminal, (2) the mobile telephone terminal writes the encrypted first ID code in the non-volatile memory as is, and (3) the encrypted first ID code is decoded at the time of communication and transmitted to the network along with the second ID code.
