    • The electric apparatus performs time display that is optimal for a user, without need of operations for switching time display by use of the 12-hour system and 24-hor system. In a tape printer, a keyboard section and a CPU are connected to each other via any one of a plurality of solder points A, B, and C. If the solder point is “A” (YES at S103), an hour system flag is set to “OFF” (S105). If the solder point is not “A” (NO at S103), the hour system flag is set to “ON” (S107). If the hour system flag is OFF, a target country (target district) of the keyboard section is “USA”, so that time is displayed in the 12-hour system on a liquid crystal display section, while if the hour system flag is ON, the target country (target district) of the keyboard section is not “USA”, so that time is displayed in the 24-hour system on the liquid crystal display section.

    • In a ribbon position selecting device for a printer which includes a step motor for driving a ribbon base retaining a ribbon cassette to locate a ribbon at a predetermined position, the present invention comprises a stopper for determining a reference position of the ribbon cassette, and a power transmitting mechanism for transmitting power of the step motor to the ribbon base. The power transmitting mechanism comprises a torque limiter and a one-way clutch. When the ribbon cassette is brought into abutment against the stopper, the step motor is rotated without step out owing to the torque limiter to prevent deviation in phase at the stop position. In contrast, when the ribbon cassette is driven to separate from the stopper, slipping in the power transmitting mechanism is eliminated by the one-way clutch to secure feeding of the ribbon cassette, thereby eliminating the possibility of mixing of colors.

    • A positioning device for a printer for driving a ribbon base on which a ribbon cassette is carried by means of a stepping motor to position a ribbon to any of predetermined shift positions. The device includes a stopper for defining a home position of the ribbon cassette, and a power transmitting mechanism for transmitting a power of the stepping motor to the ribbon base. The power transmitting mechanism includes therein a torque limiter which yields a slip therein when a torque lower than a pull-out torque of the stepping motor is applied thereto. Accordingly, when the ribbon cassette is abutted with the stopper, the stepping motor is allowed to continue rotation thereof without stepping out by the torque limiter, thereby preventing an out-of-phase condition of the stepping motor at a stopped position thereof. Consequently, upon subsequent operation, the ribbon cassette can be shifted accurately, and hence color mixture in printing can be eliminated.

    • In a printing apparatus, the number of delimiters included in received data from a host apparatus is smaller than the number of input items of a template by one. Therefore, the number of delimiters included in the received data from the host apparatus is calculated to be three. A character string which is periodically repeated in the received data three times as the number of the delimiters is obtained and set to be a delimiter candidate. Further, a print start character string candidate is obtained from a data group which is located after a last delimiter candidate in the received data. Using the provisionally determined candidates for a delimiter and a print start character string, the four item data included in the received data are assumed. Then, a print preview is displayed on a LCD so as to show a state where the four item data is input to each of the input items of the template.
