    • The present invention relates to a polypeptide having the activity of N-acetylglucosamine-1-phosphate uridyltransferase (hereinafter referred to as GlmU), a DNA coding for the polypeptide, a recombinant DNA containing the DNA, a transformant carrying the recombinant DNA, a method of culturing the transformant for producing the GlmU polypeptide, and a method of culturing the transformant for producing uridine 5′-diphosphate-N-acetylglucosamine.According to the present invention, mass-scale production of the GlmU polypeptide derived from microorganisms belonging to the genus Corynebacterium glutamicum has been enabled by genetic recombinant technology. By using the enzyme, uridine 5′-diphosphate-N-acetylglucosamine can be produced efficiently.
