    • A wireless sensor network for wirelessly monitoring a medical subject includes a plurality of sensor nodes (22, 24, 26, 122, 124, 126). Each sensor node includes a wireless transceiver (46) for sending and receiving wireless messages, a sensor (40, 42, 130, 132, 140, 142) monitoring a characteristic of the medical subject, and a processor (50). The processor is programmed to at least perform an authentication method including: (i) acquiring sensor data via the sensor for a predetermined time (76) responsive to receiving a wireless trigger message; (ii) storing an association code (60, 150, 152, 160, 162) computed from the acquired sensor data; and (iii) authenticating a subsequently received wireless message containing an association code tag by comparing the association code tag with the stored association code. The processor further attaches the stored association code as the association code tag in messages sent to other sensors.

    • The present invention relates to a transceiver device for processing a medium access control (MAC) protocol used by a transceiver. The transceiver has a first antenna system for on-body communications and a second antenna system for off-body communications, the transceiver device being designed to reserve one or more data payloads for on-body communications and to allocate the first antenna system to the transceiver for the interval of time occupied by these data payloads, and/or to reserve one or more data payloads for off-body communications and to allocate the second antenna system to the transceiver for the interval of time occupied by these data payloads. An advantageous result of this is that the optimally matched antenna system is available for on-body communications and off-body communications respectively, collisions between data payloads on the radio channel being prevented within the network, and the throughput of data thus being increased and, at the same time, energy consumption being reduced for the transceiver.

    • The invention relates to a wireless device for medical data transmission that comprises a wireless interface, a processor, and a medical equipment interface arranged to provide connection to an item of medical equipment. The processor is arranged to communicate with the medical equipment interface and the wireless interface, and is also 5 arranged to perform a protocol adaptation. The protocol adaptation takes place from a protocol of incoming data received at the medical equipment interface to a protocol of data to be transmitted through the wireless interface, or vice versa. The protocol adaptation comprises individual or combined filtering, gathering, partitioning, prioritizing, or discarding the incoming data. The processor is further arranged to read a configuration file containing an 10 adaptation specification that pertains to the protocol adaptation; and to perform the protocol adaptation in compliance with the adaptation specification. The invention also relates to a method for setting up the wireless device.
