    • A method and apparatus for coupling light from an array of optoelectronic devices to a corresponding array of fibers contained in a fiber optic ferrule is disclosed. The fibers may be single-mode or multi-mode optical fibers. The method includes fixing the fiber optic ferrule to the optical subassembly (OSA) base upon which the array of optoelectronic devices will be affixed, aligning the array of optoelectronic devices to the corresponding array of fibers, then securing the array of optoelectronic devices to the OSA base. In one embodiment, the module includes an optical subassembly module housing a linear array of 1300 nm VCSELs or photodetectors, spaced apart at a 250 micron pitch to correspond to the spacing of optical fibers in a conventional MT ferrule. The array of optoelectronic devices is mounted on a substrate assembly that includes a weldable surface and one or more photodetectors for automatic power control. After the components are aligned, the substrate assembly is affixed to the OSA base by epoxying or welding. The material within the substrate assembly is transparent to the emitted light or includes a notch or hole that allows light to pass through, in order to facilitate the integral placement of the monitor within the substrate assembly and beneath the material.

    • A guitar strap including lasso-like connectors at either end, allowing the strap to be fastened to the guitar by placing the sliding loops over the guitar's strap-buttons and pulling tight. A pull-tab near the sliding eye on the sliding loops is used to pull the loop back open and disconnect the strap end from the guitar. An elastic ring incorporated into the pull-tab stretches over the button head and fastens onto the button to prevent the sliding eye from loosening open when there is no tension on the strap. Each connector is positioned in a sling formed by folding a length of the strap band. The strap band has soft loop material on its surfaces and a section of hook tape fixed to either end to facilitate adjustment of the overall strap length. The tape adheres to nearly any location along the top surface of the band, allowing the length of the strap to be adjusted quickly in large or small increments. The loop material along both sides of the strap band allow users to affix hook-tape to a variety of objects such as wireless transmitters, audio recorders, and decorations and attach them to the strap as desired.

    • A litter box device for use by pets. The device includes at least two litter boxes arranged as stacked drawers held in a housing. The upper drawer is accessible to a pet through an entry to the housing. The bottom of each drawer has a screen and a slidably removable drawer bottom. Removal of the slidably removable drawer bottom allows the contents of the drawer to pass into the underlying drawer. After pets excrete waste into the litter in the top box, the loose litter is separated from the waste clumps by sliding the removable drawer bottom from the top drawer, allowing loose litter granules to flow down through a screened opening into the underlying drawer. The top drawer will retain the waste clumps on its screen within the upper drawer, the screen positioned proximate to the slidably removable drawer bottom. The waste clumps may then be removed from the drawer and screen. The lower drawer containing the filtered litter can be guided up into the top position. A lift assisting mechanism allows the lower drawer to be lifted into the upper drawer position without the operator having to bear the full weight of the litter-filled drawer. After the emptied drawer is placed in the vacant lower drawer position the apparatus is ready for pet use again.

    • A guitar strap including lasso-like connectors at either end, allowing the strap to be fastened to the guitar by placing the sliding loops over the guitar's strap-buttons and pulling tight. A pull-tab near the sliding eye on the sliding loops is used to pull the loop back open and disconnect the strap end from the guitar. An elastic ring incorporated into the pull-tab stretches over the button head and fastens onto the button to prevent the sliding eye from loosening open when there is no tension on the strap. Each connector is positioned in a sling formed by folding a length of the strap band. The strap band has soft loop material on its surfaces and a section of hook tape fixed to either end to facilitate adjustment of the overall strap length. The tape adheres to nearly any location along the top surface of the band, allowing the length of the strap to be adjusted quickly in large or small increments. The loop material along both sides of the strap band allow users to affix hook-tape to a variety of objects such as wireless transmitters, audio recorders, and decorations and attach them to the strap as desired.
