    • An optical scanning device includes a light source configured to emit light beams, a deflector to deflect the light beams emitted from the light source, a first optical assembly which is positioned upon a light path of the light beams traveling from the light source to the deflector and which forms an image with the light beams emitted from the light source in a sub scanning direction in a vicinity of the deflector, and a second optical assembly to form the image upon a surface to be scanned with the light beams deflected by the deflector. A principal ray of two of the light beams incident to the first optical assembly, which are located at each respective terminus in the sub scanning direction, are set so as to advance so as either to remain mutually parallel to or converge with one another after passing through the first optical assembly.

    • An optical scanning device for an image forming apparatus includes plurality light sources, a deflecting unit that deflects light beams from the light sources with a common deflecting reflection surface, a scanning optical system that guides the light beams deflected from the common deflecting reflection surface of the deflecting unit onto the optical scanning portions on stations different for each light source in order to form an optical spot with each light beam, monitoring units that monitor light intensities of the light beams from the light sources, and a splitting unit that splits each light beam into a split light beam toward one monitoring unit. The light beams enter the monitoring unit at different timings and enter the deflecting unit at different incident angles.

    • An optical scanner includes a light source, an optical coupler, an optical line image unit, a deflector, and an optical scanning unit. The optical scanning unit includes scanning lenses that guide the beams to a surface to be scanned. A surface on the deflector side of the scanning lens closest to a deflection reflecting surface has a negative power in a vertical scanning direction, and is a special toric surface in which a radius of curvature in a vertical scanning changes from an optical axis of the lens surface toward a periphery of the horizontal scanning direction. An F number of the beams toward the surface to be scanned of the scanning lens in the vertical scanning direction is larger in a peripheral part than in a central part in an effective scanning width.
