    • Functional yet decorative luminaires intended to create distinctive environments within specific areas of a space in which one or more luminaires are used, the luminaires of the invention visually tie to architectural elements of the space by providing a customizable glow of color surrounding a typically white light that acts to illuminate the space functionally. A downlighting luminaire configured according to the invention as one example is typically configured to utilize two separate reflectors, usually reflectors having concave reflective surfaces and being mounted concentrically within a housing, an inner reflector directing light centrally through an aperture of the luminaire with the light so directed typically being white light useful for illumination intended to facilitate usual activities within the space. An outer reflector is spaced from the inner reflector with a transparent or translucent disc, such as an acrylic plastic disc, being held between the reflectors, the disc having a colored film adhered preferably to lower surfaces thereof to cause portions of the light emanating from lamping disposed above the disc to be colored by passage through the colored film, the disc being readily removable and replaced with a disc having a different color adhered thereto so that a particular luminaire can be customized as to color selection depending on user choice at any given time. An annulus of glowing, colored light exits the periphery of the luminaire aperture outwardly of the inner cone, the reflective surfaces of the outer reflector directing at least portions of the colored light passing through the disc and colored film through an annular aperture of the luminaire, thereby creating a distinctive appearance of a central, white shaft of light emanating from the inner reflector and a glowing annulus of colored light surrounding the white shaft of light. Peripheral edges of the inner reflector can be positioned flushly with the luminaire aperture or can extend to one or more positions outwardly of the luminaire aperture and thus “proud” of a ceiling or the like within which the luminaire is recessed, surface-mounted or pendently mounted inter alia.

    • A combination tray is used for the transportation, storage, and gravity feed dispensing of beverage bottles. The tray includes flaps pivotally mounted on a top edge of each side wall for converting the tray between a storage and transportation configuration and a gravity feed dispensing configuration. When in the storage and transportation configuration, the flaps are generally perpendicular to the side walls and have a number of arcuate recesses to position and stabilize the bottles in the tray in an upright position. A bottom surface of each tray has a number of bottle cap receiving sockets. When the bottles are positioned with the arcuate recesses of the flaps, filled trays can be stacked one upon another so that the bottle caps of a subjacent tray are received within the sockets in the base of a superjacent tray thereby creating a stable stack of filled trays. The trays are convertible to a gravity feed dispensing configuration by pivoting the flap approximately 270 degrees to be generally parallel with an outside surface of the attached side wall. The tray is then positioned on an inclined shelf of a gravity feed display rack within a merchandising island. When the forward most bottle of a tray is tilted forward and removed from the tray the remaining bottles advance toward the front edge of the tray replacing the removed bottle. A slip surface layer and divider wall are provided on the base of the tray to promote the orderly friction free advance of the bottles toward the front edge of the tray. The sizing and design of the tray of the present invention permits the inclined shelf of a gravity feed display rack to be vertically closely spaced relative to other trays and still provide easy access and gravity feed dispensing of the bottles in the tray. Once the tray positioned on the shelf is emptied, it is removed from the shelf and replaced by a filled tray. The empty tray is returned and filled for subsequent reuse. The merchandising island also includes bays into which stacks of bottle filled trays can be inserted for self-service customer access or storage.

    • A combustion air and exhaust gas balancing system for use with a direct-vent heater appliance. The balancing system includes a combustion air valve in fluid communication with a combustion air duct and an exhaust gas valve in fluid communication with an exhaust gas duct. The combustion air valve is operatively coupled to the exhaust gas valve with an actuator. The combustion air and exhaust gas valves are shaped and sized so that a single operation of the actuator simultaneously adjusts the flow of combustion air into the firebox and the flow of exhaust gas out of the firebox and provide selected flame characteristics in the firebox. In one aspect of this embodiment, a movement of the actuator in a first direction simultaneously increases the flow of combustion air and exhaust gas, and a movement of the actuator shaft in a second direction simultaneously restricts the flow of combustion air and exhaust gas. The actuator shaft is securable after final adjustment of the combustion air and exhaust gas flows to maintain the selected adjustment. In another embodiment, the exhaust gas duct includes a dilution air inlet aperture that permits combustion air to pass from the combustion air duct into the exhaust gas duct without first passing through the firebox.

    • A burner assembly that overcomes problems experienced in the prior art. One embodiment provides a burner assembly for burning a fuel gas from a gas source. The assembly has a burner body with a contoured upper surface and a burner pan with a gas inlet aperture therein. The burner body is connected to the burner pan. The burner body and burner pan are spaced apart to form a gas distribution chamber therebetween. The burner body has a plurality of gas apertures extending between the distribution chamber to an upper surface of the burner body. The gas apertures are positioned to allow the fuel gas to flow to selected areas on the burner body's upper surface for combustion to create a desired flame at selected locations relative to the upper surface. In one embodiment is a contoured upper surface with a plurality of peaks and valleys forming simulated coal or ember members.
