    • A base station receives multiple first signals from multiple mobile terminals over a first radio channel (e.g., a RACH, a CPCH, etc.). Multiple acknowledgement signals are generated for transmission over an acquisition indication channel (AICH) during a same access time slot. Each acknowledgement signal is responsive to one of the mobile terminals and includes a signature sequence of bits associated with the first signal received from that mobile terminal. An AICH transmission power profile is determined for the access time slot. If the AICH transmission power profile exceeds a predetermined maximum transmission power parameter, then a first portion of the an AICH transmission power profile is adjusted. Thereafter, the acknowledgement signals are transmitted over the AICH in accordance with the adjusted AICH transmission power profile.

    • The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for gathering statistics relating to random access operation in a cell of a cellular radio communication network and supervising such random access operation. Statistics are gathered (301), per random access preamble code, relating to random access detections associated with one or more random access preamble codes used in the cell. Based on such gathered statistics, random access operation in the cell may be supervised by evaluating (311) the gathered statistics and, upon determining (312) that the random access detections associated with a specific random access preamble code exhibit an abnormal behaviour likely to be caused by false random access preamble detections, initiating (313) at least one of issuing a corresponding operation and maintenance alarm signal and automatically blocking further use of said specific random access preamble code in the cell.

    • A receiver receives a signal and samples it at multiple sample points. During a first time interval, a first subset of the multiple sample points are selected for further receiver processing. During a second time interval, a second different subset of the multiple sample points are selected for further receiver processing. Alternatively, the sampling positions for sampling the received signal may be automatically varied so that the sampling positions change in subsequent time intervals. The subsets may be alternately selected or varied, randomly selected or varied, or selected or varied in some other fashion. Some of sample points provide more optimal samples for the received signal, and some provide less optimal samples. Having different sample points processed at different times improves receiver stability and performance.
