    • A computer-implemented method for migrating archived files may include (1) identifying a file system including a plurality of placeholder files that reference corresponding archived files stored on a first archival system, (2) identifying a request to migrate the archived files from the first archival system to a second archival system, (3) making the second archival system available to the file system for archival, and, while both the first archival system and the second archival system are available to the file system, (4) locating each placeholder file within the plurality of placeholder files on the file system, and, for each located placeholder file, (5) retrieving a corresponding archived file from the first archival system, and (6) archiving the corresponding archived file on the second archival system. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

    • Embodiments of a system and method for distributed file system I/O recovery in storage networks. Embodiments may detect loss of access to a server in the storage network and recover application I/O requests in real-time once access to the server is restored. Embodiments may detect server and/or network failures and store failed and new I/O requests. Recovery from the failure (e.g. network reconnect, server node reboot, or failover, if this is a clustered environment) may be detected and, after recovery is detected, any stored failed and new I/O requests may be sent to the server. In one embodiment, to detect recovery from the failure, a failed I/O request may be repeatedly re-issued until the I/O request succeeds. Embodiments may be implemented in a variety of storage environments, including environments where clients issue direct I/O over a storage network to storage and control I/O over a network to a server.

    • A computer-implemented method for deduplicating archived data may include (1) identifying a volume of data subject to deduplication, with the volume of data comprising at least one archived file that is represented on the volume of data with a placeholder file and is stored on an alternate volume of data, and (2) determining a disposition of the archived file for deduplication by (i) determining that the archived file is represented by the placeholder file, and, in response to determining that the archived file is represented by the placeholder file, (ii) identifying a deduplication fingerprint of the archived file instead of a deduplication fingerprint of the placeholder file.
