    • Provided is a head-up display having a prism sheet interposed between a display device and the position of an observer's eye. Control is extended so that points from which light rays having different wavelengths emerge are made different by a predetermined distance from each other so as not to form images at different points by light rays from a point source, relative to the difference between the wavelengths. Otherwise, a distance to an image in a vertical direction is made shorter by a predetermined distance than a distance thereto in a horizontal direction. The vertical angle of each of prisms included in the prism sheet is asymmetrical to a normal to the surface of the prism sheet.

    • A virtual image display apparatus comprises a pair of optical projection systems, each having a display device, a light source and a projection lens. The images formed on the display device are projected to an image location optical system, which comprises a light collecting lens and an optical diffusion device. The light rays from the optical projection systems are reflected at a translucent reflecting means, so that the light rays are respectively collected at right and left eyes of an observing person. As a result, the images can be recognized by the person as a virtual image in the distance. Since the optical diffusion device diffuses the light rays, in such a way that the light rays to one of observing eyes may not reach the other observing eye, so that the image information of the respective light rays can be recognized by the observing person, without causing a cross-talk.

    • A head-up display apparatus allows an occupant of a vehicle to visually perceive a virtual image of an image light reflected by a windshield after passing through a cylindrical lens. The cylindrical lens is inclined against the image light to thereby reflect outside light not to reach an eye range of the occupant. The cylindrical lens is placed in a light guide portion such that (i) an action axis direction for an optical action and (ii) a horizontal direction in the display image agree with each other. Of the cylindrical lens, an inclination angle and installation depth are so set that light incident at an angle equal to or greater than an interception upper-limit incident angle and reflected by a pass-through side of the cylindrical lens does not arrive at the eye range of the occupant.

    • A liquid crystal display panel includes a first electrode substrate having a transparent electrode array, and a second electrode substrate having a second transparent electrode array which extends perpendicularly to the electrode array of the first substrate. The substrates overlap each other with separation walls interposed therebetween. The separation walls are formed in the spaces between individual transparent electrodes of one of the arrays and extend in parallel therewith. Liquid crystal, such as antiferroelectric liquid crystal, fills the space between the two electrode substrates. The liquid crystal near the separation walls is not properly oriented, and light leaks therethrough in the dark state of the liquid crystal. To prevent the light leakage, metal electrodes are formed along the separation walls so that the metal electrodes intercept the light passing through the liquid crystal near the separation walls. Thus, a high display contrast is realized.
