    • A large scale display device such as a stadium or advertising display in which a plurality of light emitting elements constituted by cathode-ray tubes are arranged in a plane to display color images and characters. Specifically, light emitting elements are constituted by cathode-ray tubes having three primary color light emitting elements. A drive circuit is provided for each color of each of the light emitting element to selectively turn on and off the light emitting element. The drive circuit has brightness adjusting means for adjusting the intensity of light emitted by each light emitting element. A memory circuit is connected to each drive circuit for supplying a binary control signal to the drive circuit to selectively turn on and off the corresponding light emitting element.

    • A large scale display device capable of displaying half tones composed of a display panel having a large number of display elements arranged in a matrix form with each element having a memory function. The overall range of an image signal is divided into a plurality of steps or levels. A first level signal is used to control the timing of turning on the display element while a second level signal is used to control the timing of turning off the display element so that the light emitting time period is made proportional to the amplitude of the image signal. Both the number of decisions required and the number of times of controlling the display elements are reduced over prior constructions so that various half tones can be readily displayed.

    • A horizontal deflection apparatus which is provided with a circuit to convert a vertical deflection voltage into a crosswise pincushion distortion correction voltage in a parabola form, a vertical frequency detecting circuit which detects a frequency of a vertical synchronizing signal and outputs a control signal of a voltage corresponding to the frequency, an automatic gain control circuit which amplifies the correction voltage with the gain controlled in response to the control signal corresponding to the outputted vertical frequency and outputs a voltage signal in a parabola form with a fixed amplitude for correcting a crosswise pincushion distortion, a pulse width modulating circuit which modulates a pulse signal synchronized with a horizontal synchronizing signal in response to the outputted voltage signal from the automatic gain control circuit, and a chopper-type power circuit which chops a power voltage with the pulse width modulating output and gives the chopped power voltage to a horizontal output circuit, thereby correcting the crosswise pincushion distortion in response to the voltage signal with the fixed amplitude irrespective of the change of the vertical frequency, and enabling adequate correction of the crosswise pincushion distortion even if the vertical frequency changes.

    • A scan format conversion apparatus has a scanning conversion circuit which digitally converts an interlaced-scanning TV signal into noninterlaced-scanning RGB signals and synchronizing signals. A plurality of interpolation computing circuits respectively produce a plurality of interpolation signals from the signals outputted from the scanning conversion circuit by executing computing operations. A plurality of image memories respectively store the signals outputted from the interpolation computing circuits for one-frame period. A memory controller properly controls the writing and reading operation performed by the plural image memories. The apparatus generates a plurality of scan-line data by a certain amount more than those which are generated by the noninterlaced-scanning operation, and then selects scan-line data available for a display unit with uniform alignment from the increased scan-line data.
