    • An image display device of the present invention includes a subframe generation section (10) for dividing one frame of a video signal into a first subframe during which at least a green (G) light source emits light, a second subframe during which at least a red (R) light source emits light, and a third subframe during which a blue (B) light source emits light. The subframe generation section (10) finds a difference between (i) a signal to be displayed, which signal is obtained from an aperture ratio corrected in the first subframe and luminance distribution of a light source corresponding to a red (R) video signal included in the first subframe and (ii) the red (R) video signal included in the first subframe, and corrects, according to the difference found in the first subframe, an aperture ratio corrected in the second subframe. This prevents insufficiency of luminance, and thus makes it possible to carry out an accurate color display.

    • It is expected to provide an image display apparatus and image display method that can reduce the risk that an image quality is undermined due to a halo phenomenon caused by the leak of light passing through a non-corresponding color filter from a LED. The image display apparatus can respectively control luminous efficiencies of plural color LEDs, i.e., R-LED (11a), G-LED (11b) and B-LED (11c) that emit light through a color filter to a displaying unit. The image display apparatus obtains luminous efficiencies for a frame of RGB image signal (S2), calculates a light leak amount and then detects whether the halo phenomenon may occur or not (S3-S5). When the halo phenomenon is considered to occur, the luminous efficiencies of LEDs (11a, 11b, 11c) included in the liquid crystal display apparatus are controlled to make the light from the LEDs (11a, 11b, 11c) become close to white light (S8).

    • A liquid crystal display device (101) including a liquid crystal panel (4) and an LED backlight (5) which is provided with a plurality of LEDs (5R, 5G, and 5B) that emit light of different colors from a backside of the liquid crystal panel (4), the liquid crystal display device (1), in accordance with a video signal supplied thereto, (i) displaying a color image by controlling an aperture ratio of the liquid crystal panel (4) and luminances of the respective plurality of LEDs (5R, 5G, and 5B), and (ii) controlling the luminances of the respective plurality of LEDs (5R, 5G, and 5B) by pulse width modulation, the liquid crystal display device (101) includes: period dividing means (15) for dividing a frame of a video signal into a plurality of periods; and a pulse width modulating section (20) which generates a pulse signal for causing each of the plurality of LEDs (5R, 5G, and 5B) to emit light so that for each of the plurality of periods into which the period dividing means (15) has divided the frame, the plurality of LEDs (5R, 5G, and 5B) emit light while overlapping with each other. According to this, a deterioration in display quality is prevented by reducing a variation between a luminance ratio set in accordance with each frame and a luminance ratio of light transmitted through a liquid crystal panel.
