    • Disclosed is a power supply apparatus for a linear motor transportation system having a number of discrete linear motor units serially arranged along a track to generate a moving magnetic field for driving vehicle. The apparatus comprises the linear motor units divided into a plurality of power supply systems each subdivided into a plurality of groups such that each of the power supply systems includes a series of ones of the linear motor units, the series of the linear motor units in each of the power supply systems being successively allotted to different ones of the groups; feeders provided respectively correspondingly to the groups in each of the power supply systems; feeder section switches for connecting respective one ends of the linear motor units in each of the group with corresponding ones of the feeders; a plurality of power supply devices provided respectively correspondingly to the groups in each of the power supply systems; and output side switches provided for connecting the respective outputs of the power supply device with corresponding ones of the feeders. The respective other ends of the linear motor units are connected with return path feeders and in each of the power supply systems, the series of linear motor units are successively excited by a corresponding one of the plurality of power supply devices as the vehicle runs.

Each of main controllers for determining each feeding section includes a boundary candidate operation unit for calculating a feeding section boundary candidate of a power converter between the neighboring power converters on the basis of the position information of a train being present in the feeding section, a section boundary determining unit, and a feeding block switch control unit for controlling on-off states of the block switches so as to define the feeding section boundary between neighboring two feeding blocks. Each boundary determining unit selects one boundary from two boundary candidates supplied from the boundary candidate operation units of the main controller of the neighboring two power converters.

    • A feeding system for a linear motor transportation system in which a number of discrete drive coil units or linear motor units are arranged along a track to generate a moving magnetic field for driving trains is disclosed. In the present feeding system, a number of feeding sections extend contiguously along the track and each of the feeding sections includes at least one power supply station. Each feeding section is divided into at least two linear motor blocks each having a feeder block. The linear motor units in each of the linear motor blocks are connected through associated ones of a first group of switches to the associated feeder means which are connected to the power converter of the associated feeding section through associated ones of a second group of switches. Preferably, those adjacent two feeder blocks which belong to adjacent different feeding sections respectively are coupled together through an associated one of a third group of switches. Preferably, the second switches are correspondingly connected to the power supply stations through a fourth group of switches. Preferably, in each of the feeding sections, a dynamic brake is coupled to the junction of the second switches and the feeder blocks or the junction of the second and fourth switches through a corresponding one of a fifth group of switches.

    • In a linear motor composed of a propelling coil laid on continuously along a track and a field system mounted on a vehicle for driving it, the propelling coil of an enormous length is sectioned into a number of propelling coil units which are connected alternately to two sets of feeders by means of switches, the feeder sets being supplied with polyphase currents from different power converters, respectively. The propelling coil units are connected in series to one another without any interposed insulation and sectioned by a number of lead conductors so that every pair of the adjacent propelling coil units has a common coil portion shared by them and having a length not smaller than that of the vehicle. A pair of the polyphase lead conductors connected to each of the propelling coil units are connected, respectively, to going feeders and return feeders constituting the set of feeders through switches. Change-over of power supply between the adjacent propelling coil units is performed during a period in which the vehicle is running along the common coil section by closing and opening the associated switches and controlling power converters.
