    • An electrostatic copying machine made up of an image-forming unit including a rotary drum having an exposure zone and a transfer zone, an optical system for projecting the image of the document to be copied onto the exposure zone, a copying paper-feeding system including a paper-feeding cassette that can be freely drawn to the front surface of the body of the copying machine, and a copying paper conveying passage for conveying a copying paper fed from the copying paper-feeding means through the transfer zone. A fixing device and a pair of paper-discharging rollers are disposed on the downstream side of the transfer zone. The paper-feeding cassette, image-forming unit, fixing device and the pair of paper-discharging rollers are successively arranged from one side toward the other side in the body of the copying machine within the maximum exposure scanning length of the optical system, and the copying paper conveying passage is arranged substantially linearly.

    • A supporting and driving mechanism including a rotatable body and a supporting unit for assuring stable support and rotation of the rotatable body for a long time. The mechanism includes an axis member at either end of the rotatable body, a driven gear at one end of the rotatable body, two rollers and a driving gear of the supporting unit. The two rollers are placed parallel to each other and the distance between the closed surfaces of the rollers is smaller than the diameter of the axis member of the rotatable body. The driving gear engages the driven gear and transmits a driving force to the driven gear of the rotatable body. The driving force applied from the driving gear to the driven gear directs between the centers of the two rollers when the driving force is translated so that the origin of the force is brought to the center of the axis member of the rotatable body. Thus the axis member is pressed toward the two rollers while the rotatable body is driven by the supporting unit, whereby the position of the axis member is fixed and the stable rotation of the rotatable body is assured for a long time.

    • A cleaning unit for an electrophotographic copier is provided to remove toner and developing material from a photo-sensitive material from which a developed image has been transferred and includes a housing having an opening facing the photo-sensitive material. A main blade member is provided in the housing of the cleaning unit and has an upper portion which abuts against the photo-sensitive material through an opening of the housing to scrape the toner and developing materials off the photo-sensitive material. The cleaning unit further includes a receiving blade covering the lower portion of the opening, and having an upper end portion abutted against the photo-sensitive material to allow the toner and developing material scraped off by the main blade to fall into the opening and a film-shaped reinforcing member bonded to the surface of the receiving blade facing the inside of the housing to prevent deformation of the receiving blade.
