摘要： The invention provides a liquid crystal display capable of obtaining light and high-contrast display having a wide viewing angle in a transflective liquid crystal display. A liquid crystal display of the present invention employs a vertical alignment mode using a liquid crystal layer that is vertically aligned in the initial alignment state. A transparent display area is disposed to surround the periphery of a reflective display area in one dot, and an insulating film is provided in the area that corresponds to the reflective display area in the center of the dot. The insulating film makes the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the reflective display area to be smaller than the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the transparent display area.

A layer-thickness adjusting layer 6 where a region corresponding to the transmissive display region 32 constitutes an opening 61, is formed on the upper layer side of the light reflecting layer 4. In the layer-thickness adjusting layer 6, the boundary portion of the reflective display region 31 and the transmissive display region 32 constitutes an inclined surface 60, and a light shielding film 9 is two-dimensionally superimposed on this boundary region.
