    • A system mitigates market spike effects caused by conditional ordering triggering and election in an automated matching system. The system monitors trading as a result of cascading triggering of conditional orders. When an order is executed beyond a predetermined price threshold, an instrument may be flagged, allowing matching to occur only at or within the predetermined price threshold. Orders within the price threshold are matched at the price threshold against orders beyond it, dampening any instantaneous damaging effects of the price spike. The system may adjust the price threshold when market appropriate, allowing the order flow to bring the market back to whatever is the true price level. The system mitigates purely conditional order cascade driven price fluctuations, but allows the market to continuously trade in controlled price and time intervals ensuring that true market moves can still occur without price control mechanisms hindering trade matching and true price discovery.

    • A battery pack having at least one electrochemical cell and a temperature dependent boost circuit is provided. Since the cell voltage is diminished at low temperatures, and as portable electronic devices typically have a minimum operational voltage limit, the boost circuit is actuated at low temperatures to step up the voltage from the cell to the electronic device. In one embodiment, the boost circuit is coupled serially between the cell and the output terminals of the battery pack. In parallel with the boost circuit is a boost bypass circuit. A controller senses the temperature of the battery pack from a temperature sensor, like a thermistor. When the temperature falls below a predetermined minimum temperature threshold, the controller actuates the boost circuit, thereby increasing the output voltage of the pack. Concurrently with the actuation of the boost circuit, the controller causes the boost bypass circuit to enter a high impedance state.

    • A system mitigates the effects of a market spike caused by the triggering and the election of a conditional order in an automated matching system. The system includes evaluation logic, delay logic, pricing logic and timing logic. The evaluation logic monitors conditional orders submitted to a trading engine and is configured to compare a price of an order to a first predefined price range. The delay logic delays matching of the orders submitted to the trading engine when the price of the orders lie outside of the first predefined price range. The pricing logic derives an opening price to be used by the trading engine. The timing logic measures a time interval used to delay a matching of the orders until the opening price is within a predefined price range up to a maximum delay time set by a control center. A method of mitigating the effect of a market spike caused by the triggering and the election of a conditional order includes monitoring conditional orders submitted to the trading engine. The method compares the price of a conditional order to a first predefined price range and delays the matching of orders submitted to the trading engine when the price of the conditional order lies outside of the first predetermined price range. The method derives an opening price to be used by the trading engine; and measures a time interval used to delay the matching of the orders until the opening price is within a predefined price range up to a maximum delay time set by a control center.

    • This invention includes an electronic device that has both electrical contacts for coupling to local, application specific circuitry and contacts for supplying power to another electronic device. The electronic devices may be coupled in series, so as to eliminate the need for bulky, unsightly cables or wires. Since the devices may be coupled in series ad infinitum, the possibility exists that the series combination of devices may draw more power than either a power source can provide or sensitive internal circuitry, like fuses for example, can handle. As such, each electronic device includes a current limiting circuit having a current sense circuit and a switch coupled serially between the input and the output that powers the next electronic device. When the current drawn from the input to the output supplying power for the downstream devices exceeds a predetermined threshold, the switch deactivates the upstream chargers local circuitry. Once the downstream devices have completed their desired activities, the current drawn by the downstream devices will be reduced. When this occurs, the current sense circuits of the upstream devices will detect that the total current drawn has fallen below the predetermined threshold and will once again reactivate their local circuitry. In one embodiment, the electronic devices are desktop battery chargers. By disabling upstream battery chargers while downstream battery chargers complete their charging cycle, the current limiting devices in the upstream battery chargers ensure that fuses disposed within the upstream battery chargers do not blow. A blown fuse in an upstream charger could result in the entire series combination losing power. By including the current limiting circuit of the invention, a user may couple as many series devices together as they want without fear of blowing fuses in the upstream devices.
