    • The invention provides a light irradiation apparatus that can adjust widening/narrowing of a light irradiation area and can guide almost whole of light emitted from an LED to the light irradiation area.The apparatus has an LED 11 and an optical unit 2 for making light for the LED 11 pass through itself and emit from its apical surface 21, and is equipped further with a supporting body 1A for holding the LED on the apical surface and a position adjustment mechanism for adjusting a relative position of the optical unit 2 to the LED 11 along an optical axis C direction. The apparatus is configured so that the potion adjustment mechanism make the optical unit 2 move relative to the LED 11 between a proximity position P1 at which a part or the whole of the supporting body 1A is housed in a base end recess 25 and a clearance position P2 at which substantially whole of the supporting body 1A comes out of the base end recess 25 so that the apical surface of the supporting body 1A and a base end face 22 of the optical unit 2 become substantially the same height.

    • This invention provides an optical unit that does not require an operation of aligning the axis of the rod lens and the axis of the light condensing lens, and that can improve an assembling workability and reduce a cost with less number of forming processes and less number of components due to its downsized structure. In order to realize this optical unit provided are a light condensing section 41 and a light transmitting section 42 integrally formed at a distal end side of the light condensing section 41 with its axis coincided with an axis of the light condensing section 41. The light condensing section 41 is in a shape of a body of rotation substantially widening from a proximal end toward a distal end with centering on its optical axis C, and comprises a concave section 43 opening at a proximal end face 41a to accommodate the light emitting element 21, a side circumferential face 41c to reflect the light from the light emitting element 21 inward and a distal end face 41b to introduce the light from the light emitting element 21 into the light transmitting section 42. The light transmitting section 42 is in a substantially cylindrical shape, and comprises a proximal end face 42a to introduce the light from the light condensing section 41, a side circumferential face 42c to reflect the light introduced from the proximal end face 42a inward and a distal end face 42b to emit the light introduced from the proximal end face 42a outside.

    • An optical unit is provided with an integral light condensing section and a light transmitting section.
