    • An electrophoretic display device includes first and second substrates arranged in opposed relation to each other with a space, an insulating liquid arranged in the space and a plurality of colored and charged electrophoretic particles dispersed in the insulating liquid. On the basis of arrangement of a stage along the second substrate in the space between the substrates, a first surface opposing a thicker portion of the insulating liquid, a second surface opposing a thinner portion of the insulating liquid and a side wall of the stage, which connects the first surface to the second surface, are formed on the second substrate. A first electrode is arranged along the first surface, and a second electrode is arranged along the second surface. The display device has a third electrode arranged along at least a part of the side wall of the stage and forming an electrode face continuous with the first electrode.

    • An electrophoretic display device includes a first display electrode and a second display electrode placed on a first substrate, and a second substrate placed in opposition to the first substrate through a bulkhead. Auxiliary display electrodes (projections), each of a projecting structure, are provided on the first display electrode and the second display electrode and along lines of portions where an absolute value of a horizontal component of an electric field generated over the first display electrode and the second display electrode, becomes minimum. A space formed by the first substrate, the second substrate, and the bulkhead is filled with a transparent insulating liquid, and colored electrophoretic particles are dispersed in the insulating liquid.

    • A thin type electroluminescence (EL) display apparatus having an electromagnetic induction type touch panel function is provided.     • Two electric fields that are directed to respective directions rectangular relative to each other are selectively applied to polymer dispersed liquid crystal by means of electrodes arranged to sandwich the polymer dispersed liquid crystal and electrodes arranged along a substrate to uniformly orient the liquid crystal in either of the directions. While conventional polymer dispersed liquid crystal is adapted to utilize scatter of light in a randomly oriented state, the polymer dispersed liquid crystal of this invention is adapted to utilize a uniformly oriented state to improve the efficiency of scattering light. The present invention is also applicable to devices where polymer dispersed liquid crystal has a memory property.

    • The present invention provides a horizontally transfer type electrophoretic display device that can suppress occurrence of cross-talk and is capable of passive matrix addressing that can obtain a good display. The display device includes a fist display electrode and a second display electrode disposed on a first substrate, a second substrate being disposed in opposed relation to the first substrate via a barrier wall, a first control electrode as one of the two control electrodes disposed on the second substrate, and a second control electrode disposed at the boundary between the first display electrode and the second display electrode on the first electrode. A voltage can be independently applied to each control electrode, a transparent insulation liquid is filled in the space formed by the both substrates and the barrier wall, and colored and charged particles are dispersed in the transparent insulation liquid.
