摘要： A variable-length encoder that feeds a Coded Block Pattern (CBP) as an input symbol to variable-length code output part. Coded symbol memory supplies CBPs in neighboring blocks as coding map table reference information to coding map table provider. Coding map table provider determines a coding map table used in coding of the CBP, based on these CBPs in the neighboring blocks, and provides a coding map table H4 to variable-length code output part. Variable-length coding table provider feeds a variable-length coding table to variable-length code output part. Then the coding target CBP is subjected to variable-length coding, and the resultant is outputted as coded data. This allows information source coding of coding symbols to be performed efficiently according to the coding condition and the property of image.

摘要： Image encoding apparatus 10 according to the present invention is an image encoding apparatus 10 for dividing image signals into blocks, performing an orthogonal transform of each block, reading resultant orthogonal transform coefficients to obtain a coefficient string, and performing entropy coding, which has block selector 14 for selecting a size of a block for the orthogonal transform, out of a plurality of blocks of different sizes; coefficient string divider 12 for, when a block of a size larger than a minimum size is selected by block selector 14, dividing a coefficient string in the block into a plurality of coefficient strings of a length equal to that of a coefficient string in a block of the minimum size; and encoder 13 for performing entropy coding adapted to the coefficient string in the block of the minimum size. This substantializes the image encoding apparatus capable of achieving efficient entropy coding in the orthogonal transform of variable sizes.

摘要： A moving picture encoding apparatus for dividing a frame image as a coding target in a moving picture signal into plural target regions, detecting motion vectors for the respective target regions, and thereby performing coding based on motion compensation. The moving picture encoding apparatus comprises motion vector prediction means for performing a correction of scaling the motion vector of an adjacent region adjacent to the target region on the basis of the target reference frame image. The motion vector predicting means also performing a determination of an optimum predicted motion vector based on the motion vector of the adjacent region adjacent to the target region and thereby predicting the optimum predicted motion vector after the correction.

When an interframe prediction mode is selected as the prediction mode, a motion vector for the moving picture is detected. A spatial prediction section performs a spatial prediction for the moving picture based on the type of the moving picture and the prediction mode. An orthogonal transformation for a predictive residue signal obtained as a difference between the picture signal obtained by the motion compensation or the spatial prediction and the input picture signal is performed, based on the type of the moving picture and the prediction mode. Variable length encoding for the picture data after the orthogonal transformation is performed, based on the type of the moving picture and the prediction mode.
